Chapter 62: The Swordswoman Kuina and the Pitiful Krieg
THUMP! THUMP!
It seemed Nojiko had inherited a certain someone's ruthless style. Once she started, she showed no mercy.
Using a combination of punches and kicks, she moved like a tiger among sheep. In the blink of an eye, fifty or sixty pirates had been cut down like weeds.
The remaining pirates were stunned. Only then did they realize that the beautiful, blue-haired woman blocking the path was no ordinary person—she was a beast!
At the back of the crowd, Gin's eyes narrowed.
He slowly crouched, his cold gaze fixed on Nojiko in the distance. He began to spin his iron-ball tonfas, scraping them against the ground and sending sparks flying.
This woman's strength was considerable; even he wasn't confident he could defeat her quickly. To avoid a prolonged fight, he needed to land a direct hit to her head, killing her instantly…
Just as he was about to launch his attack, a boisterous laugh echoed across the coast.
"Hahaha! The great Pearl has arrived!"
THUD!
A lanky, well-built man, his entire body covered in steel shields, leaped from his ship and landed directly in front of Nojiko.
"Whoooa!! It's Captain Pearl!"
"He's finally making his move!"
The pirates' spirits lifted, and they raised their arms, cheering him on. "Prepare to die, woman! This is the man known as the 'Iron Wall' of our fleet, Captain Pearl!"
"That's right! It is I!"
Pearl grinned, slamming the shields on his arms together with a deafening clang.
Hm?
Nojiko sized up his unique appearance, shaking her head with a look of exasperation. "The 'Iron Wall'? More like a coward hiding inside his shell!"
The moment she finished speaking, she launched herself into the air with Moonwalk, appearing directly above Pearl. She brought a fist down with all her might, aiming straight for his head.
BOOM!
A dull, metallic clang rang out. Pearl had raised both arms, the shields on his elbows forming a seamless barrier that perfectly blocked the blow.
That hurts!
A numbing sensation shot through Pearl's arms from the violent impact, and his heart clenched in shock.
This damned woman! She's unbelievably strong!
But when he lowered his arms, he let out a triumphant laugh. "It's useless! Useless! A punch that soft could never break through my defense!"
"You know, in all my fights, I have never spilled a single drop of blood! Not one!"
He wagged a finger at Nojiko. "Being completely unscathed is the best proof of how strong I am—"
SWISH!
A flash of a blade suddenly lit up the air. A frigid slash of sword energy whistled through the air, passing through Pearl's body.
Time seemed to freeze. Pearl's body stood motionless. A thin red line abruptly appeared on his wagging finger, then extended vertically, spreading from his head to his toes in an instant.
To his horror, Pearl realized his vision was splitting.
His left eye saw the shield on his chest split in two, the cut as smooth as a mirror. His right eye saw the right half of his own body slowly tilting away.
CLANG! CLANG!
The shield-covered halves of his body fell to the ground, one after the other. The organs at the cross-section were still twitching faintly, and a pool of blood and intestines spilled out onto the dirt path.
"CAPTAIN PEARL!!!"
The surrounding pirates' eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.
In all their battles, they had never even seen anyone break through their captain's defense. But now, he had been sliced clean in two with a single sword stroke.
Tap.
A tall, slender girl landed softly on the ground. Her black hair was tied back in a high ponytail, giving her a sharp, heroic aura.
She tilted her head slightly, glancing at her blade. With a flick of her wrist, she shook off every last drop of blood from the pure white steel.
One of the 21 Great Grade Swords, the Wado Ichimonji!
"Anyone else want to die?"
Kuina's gaze was cold. She casually twirled the Wado Ichimonji, pointing it at the terrified pirates. "You can take two steps forward and try your luck."
Gulp.
The pirates swallowed hard. Despite each of them holding a weapon, they all instinctively took several steps back.
This village… what in the world was wrong with this village?!
It was supposed to be a remote, backwater place! Why was every woman who came out to stop them more terrifying than the last?!!
"You're done with lunch too?"
Nojiko lowered her fists and sighed, a little bored. She shot a sidelong glance at Kuina. "You're a guest. If you rushed over without eating your fill, it would make us, the hosts, look very rude, you know."
"Mmm, I just finished," Kuina nodded lightly. "Shane-san said he was going to wash the dishes and wouldn't let me help. I was bored, so I thought I'd come and see what was happening."
"He's my brother! Haven't you already been invited to join the crew? Calling him 'Captain' is enough!" Nojiko ground her teeth.
"But he is two years older than me," Kuina said dismissively, pushing up her glasses.
Hearing this conversation, both the fleet's Governor, Krieg, who had just stepped off his ship, and Gin, who had automatically moved to his side, looked grim.
Just finished lunch?
Bored, so you thought you'd come see what was happening?
What arrogance! It sounded as if they thought just the two of them could deal with the entire fleet as a way to walk off their meal.
But what was even more infuriating…
Was the target of their invasion himself, Shane!
Thirty ships, a full-scale invasion, with over a thousand pirates already ashore!
And you're busy washing the goddamn dishes?!
"Hey, hey, hey… they're looking down on us…"
Krieg's face was ashen, a vein throbbing in his temple. He suddenly forced a chilling laugh through his gritted teeth. "This is really starting to piss me off. Gin, you stay back. This time, I'll handle them myself!"
"Understood, Captain."
Gin gave him a surprised look, then hesitated before adding a warning, "That black-haired woman who appeared later… her swordsmanship is incredible. Do not underestimate her…"
"Enough of your nagging! You think I need you to tell me that?!"
Krieg sneered, pulling out his massive Golden Battle Spear. His heavy armor glinted in the sunlight as he launched himself into the air with a powerful leap, bringing the spear crashing down towards Kuina.
"In the end, you're all just small-fry, only good for dealing with idiots like Pearl! I am the Overlord of the East Blue! The Fleet Admiral with a bounty of seventeen million Berries, Don Krieg!!!"
"Can your little sword slashes even scratch my golden battle armor?! And this spear weighs a full ton! Let's see if a little brat like you can handle it!!!"
Golden battle armor?
Kuina looked up calmly at the massive figure closing in on her and uttered two words:
"One Sword Style: Three Thousand Worlds—Swallow's Return."
WHOOSH!
In an instant, her figure vanished, dodging the spear as her blade slashed out diagonally.
SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!!!
Three arcs of silver light flashed, enveloping Krieg's entire body in a heartbeat.
Before he could even react, the round shields on his shoulders shattered. The armor on his upper body disintegrated into a shower of metal fragments.
The final slash of sword energy precisely flicked the Golden Battle Spear from his hand, sending it flying to impale a nearby coconut tree.
"…"
Krieg's two-hundred-and-forty-three-centimeter frame froze in place, not daring to move an inch. At this very moment, the cold, sharp tip of a sword was resting one centimeter below his Adam's apple.
"A frog in a well."
Under Krieg's terrified gaze, Kuina offered a faint smile.
"Do I need to spell it out for you? Two months ago, I grasped the 'breath of all things' and stepped into the realm of the Swordmaster. From that point on, there is nothing I cannot cut, be it gold, silver, bronze, or iron."
