Chapter 57: Flickering Rift — Hearts Beyond the Vault

The last few thunder hounds fell beneath Kael's relentless assault. Lightning no longer crackled as fiercely—only a distant hum remained. The inner Vault still stretched far beyond sight, a labyrinth of shattered platforms, suspended rifts, and glimmering runes that pulsed like stars waiting to be claimed.

Kael stood amidst the ruin, panting, his armor torn in places. Blood ran down his knuckles.

Behind him, Evelyne sheathed her glaive and stepped toward Selene.

"You've reached your peak for now," Evelyne said gently. "You should consolidate it."

Selene nodded. Her body glowed faintly, divine threads of energy coiling around her limbs like silver mist.

"And you?" Kael asked, turning to Evelyne.

She smiled softly. "I've remembered too much. My seal is loose, and I need to meditate before it consumes me again."

Kael's gaze softened. "Go. I'll manage."

"You always do," Evelyne whispered, brushing her lips against his. Selene followed with her own kiss—a quiet touch of her forehead to his.

In a flash of radiant light, both vanished to the edge of the dimension where time flowed differently, beginning their deep cultivation.

Kael turned toward the looming interior.

The deeper chambers of the Vault were still untouched—and the rift pulses grew more violent with each passing hour.

Far outside the Sacred Pearl, across a rippling ocean of ether skies, a cliffside shrine glowed under dusk's light. Three women stood there.

Thalaria, regal in her silver robes, stared at a set of twin moons above. Her thoughts were distant.

"I know he's fighting alone right now," she whispered. "But I can feel it… he's not suffering. He's thriving."

Nysera stood nearby, a hand placed on the small seal crystal embedded in her collarbone. Her lips trembled.

"I should be there. I want to fight by his side again," she murmured, tears pricking her eyes. "If I were stronger…"

Valeria sat at the edge, her long golden braid falling over her shoulder, stroking her great wolf's fur.

"He'll come back. Stronger than ever," she said quietly. "And when he does… I want to be someone who deserves to stand beside him."

Back in the Vault, Kael faced the darkness alone.
