When Orion's lips were about to touch Serena's, a wave of electricity ran through her body. For a moment, time seemed suspended, their breaths mingling in slow-rising bubbles. The heat between them was real, intense, as if all the water around had turned to steam just to make that moment exist.
But before the kiss happened, a gentle whirl swept across the center of the reef, lifting golden particles and making the jellyfish lanterns flicker, as if celebrating Serena's courage. Orion gave a mischievous smile, his eyes locked on hers, and whispered close by, his voice rough with desire.
"If you keep going like this, you're going to set the festival on fire, Serena."
She bit her lip, feeling a shiver run down her body. The touch of Orion's hands slid slowly down her lower back, a silent invitation to come even closer. Serena didn't want to think, didn't want to run away. She just wanted to let herself be carried by that wave of heat born wherever their skin met.
All around, the music started up again, but for Serena, it was as if only Orion remained, his breath, his scent, the hot promise of what might come next. His hands traced lightly up her side, exploring the texture of her scales, provoking chills and sighs that she no longer cared to hide.
The festival was in full swing. Groups of mermaids and mermen played among themselves, daring each other to dance and show courage. One pair dove into an acrobatic plunge, laughing as they spun in the air. Others exchanged caresses and kisses hidden behind columns of coral. Marla, alert to everything, gave Serena a knowing look, raising an eyebrow as if to say, "Go for it!" Lira, more daring, was already in the arms of another merman, tasting hot kisses under the pink lights of the lanterns.
Serena felt her skin burn, her thoughts spinning. Orion's touch was confident and provocative, never crossing a line, but testing every reaction of hers with smiles and intense glances. One hand at her waist, another at the base of her tail, he pulled her closer, spinning slowly, their bodies fitting together with a natural harmony.
In a moment of courage, Serena ran her hand through Orion's hair, feeling the wet strands between her fingers. He smiled, pressing his forehead to hers, and murmured:
"You dance as if you were made of fire, you know that?"
"And you tease me as if you want to see that fire break loose," she replied, in a voice that surprised even herself.
Orion laughed softly, coming even closer. Serena felt her fins tremble, her heart pounding. That night was already unforgettable—and the festival was just beginning.
That was when something strange began to happen in the cove. A cold current snaked along the sandy floor, rising through the corals and making the lanterns change from pink to deep blue. The fish, once scattered, began to swim in circles as if they sensed something different.
Serena noticed first. "Do you feel that? The mood changed suddenly…"
Orion smiled, amused. "Must be you, setting everything on fire here."
She laughed, but the sensation was real. The environment was filled with a new scent, sweet, impossible to define. It was as if sea flower petals had been crushed, mixing fruit and a hint of magic. The voices around them began to die down, until everyone, in one way or another, felt the same thing: something was coming, something no creature in the ocean had ever felt before.
On the mother-of-pearl stage, the lights began to blink on their own. A colored mist slowly rose, dancing in the air, and gradually took shape. The whispers grew louder, a mix of fear and curiosity. Serena squeezed Orion's hand, feeling his breath quicken along with hers.
"Is this another festival prank?" Lira commented, eyes wide as she looked at the stage.
"If it is, I've never seen anything like it," Marla replied, biting her lip.
The sound of a bell, soft and captivating, echoed through the cove. Out of the mist, a door of glass and coral appeared, glowing with a golden sign sparkling with magical letters: "Gelato del Peccato".
A general gasp went up. Mermen and mermaids looked at each other, confused and excited. They had never seen anything appear like that in the middle of the festival. The crowd stirred, whispering, laughing nervously, trying to guess if it was another sea illusion or a gift from the ocean's deities.
From inside the shop, a figure leapt out with a spin: blue hair shining, a dress that changed color with every move, a mischievous smile and a witch's hat decorated with tiny silver dolphins. It was Zafira Blu, a living legend of the seas, famous for her playful magic and for knowing exactly what each creature desired—even when they were too afraid to admit it.
"Good evening, my aquatic delights!" Zafira announced, her voice both sweet and spicy, making everyone smile. "I brought forbidden flavors, promises of pleasure, and a festival that will leave you wanting more… Who will be the first to taste?"
No one answered right away. For a moment, everyone was hypnotized, watching Zafira glide across the stage as if she were dancing with the ocean's currents. Her eyes shone like sapphires as they locked onto Serena, making the mermaid feel a new shiver, different even from what Orion could cause.
Orion shot Serena a playful look, a silent invitation. The atmosphere, already heated, turned to pure anticipation. Serena felt desire bubble up inside her, along with the certainty: that night was just beginning.
Zafira opened her arms, as if presenting a show. From inside the magic shop came an irresistible scent of fruit and cream, a mixture that soaked every drop of water. Tiny golden bubbles began to rise, popping and releasing spicy, sweet, and wild aromas all at once. Mermaids nudged each other, mermen jostled to get closer. The promise of pleasure was written on the face of every creature there.
Marla leaned toward Serena and whispered, full of mischief. "If that ice cream is half of what they say… we're not leaving here just feeling hot, you know?"
Lira, ever bold, added, "I don't think I'll ever go home after tonight."
Serena smiled, nervous and excited, her eyes glued to Zafira. She felt her fins tingle, her whole body craving the unknown, the forbidden, the taste of something impossible. And there, holding Orion's hand, she knew—this night would change everything, even the limits of her own desire.
