The more she runs, the more the voices get louder and louder. It's like the problem she's running from is running after her. She doesn't understand what has been happening to her lately.
She can hear it all, the whole city. From the siren sounds of the ambulance from a distance to the police car chases, to the sex sounds.
Sex sounds.
Why the hell is she hearing sex sounds? People are having sex somewhere, and she can hear it for some weird reason.
She hides in an alleyway, with her hands covering her ears. When she takes her hands off, the sound gets worse and worse. So she closes them back. She looks around to see if anyone could be near her, but sees no one. There are not many people walking past her, so why does she seem to hear everything?
Her phone rings, and then she picks it up from her pocket to end the call because the noise disturbs her. She sees that it's Sofia that's calling, but she ends the call anyway and shoves the phone right back in her pocket.
She looks up, her hands still on her ears. And she has this weird urge to climb the building and stay on the roof. She doesn't know why, but she does know that she wants to jump up. How? She doesn't know; she's always been scared of heights. But suddenly she wants to get up on the roof.
Her instincts tell her to climb the fire escapes, so that is what she does. She begins to climb up the building with ease. Holding the iron with a hard grip, her stamina is strong and stealthy. She's acrobatic and gracefully flexible. She does this until she lands on the roof.
And as soon as she lands on the roof, the voices stop immediately. It's like all she needed to do to stop the voices was to climb up the roof. She doesn't know why, but she's here and she no longer hears sex noises or sirens, or voices of babies crying.
She feels at peace. The summer wind brushing against her skin, she can hear the cars in the distance. She looks down from the roof and she's not scared of how far she is above the ground.
Which is strange because she used to be so scared of heights in the past. She wonders if the accident made her fearless or just insane. Can someone stop being scared of heights after they were involved in a car accident? She doesn't know; all she knows is that she is no longer scared of heights and that something strange is going on here.
Jessica quietly sits down. She's not going to be coming down from the roof anytime soon, and weirdly, being up here gives her peace. So much peace.
She breaths in and out, planning to waste her time on someone's roof.
Jessica has been on the roof for hours, and she has gotten used to staying here, no thoughts in her mind, and no voices. She just spends time there with her eyes closed and her nose in the air. It's peaceful. She could stay here forever, but she knows that's not possible.
She also put her phone on silent. She knows Sofia and her dad are going to be worried; they need to know that she's fine even though her phone is on silent and she's not calling them to tell them that she's fine on the roof because she kept on hearing voices.
But there is one particular voice she expected to hear today, not that she wants to continue hearing his voice, but she just thought she'd hear it again.
She doesn't want to hear it because he was the one who encouraged her to do that to that man in the first place. Or did she genuinely want to teach that man a lesson? He couldn't take no for an answer, so he deserves that; he deserves to be thrown off the roof, even.
So, she was encouraged, or she just needed a boost to show that man who is boss.
She's been lying to herself, but she knows that she loved doing that to him. She never thought that she would love violence, but she loved it, and she knows that man deserved a lesson.
"He did deserve it. You were right to do that to him." She hears the voice again. She closes her eyes and squeezes them.
"Go away, go away, go away," she pleads in an innocent squeaky voice.
"But I just got here," the voice says in a cheerful tone.
"Huh?" She removes her hands from her ears, and she stands up. And when she turns around, she lets out a yelp. She could easily fall off the roof, but luckily for her, she has stamina.
Right in front of her is a handsome, handsome man with a beautiful smile on his face.
His hair, dark and curly but short, obviously because he had a haircut. She knows that his hair is naturally long, he has full lips, he's wearing a black shirt that shows off his biceps, and his skin is dark brown. He's so hot, Jessica can see that, and he's the one who spoke to her yesterday and today.
"You, you're the one who has been saying stuff to me."
"I helped you, didn't I?" He says with raised brows, making him look even more handsome. Who is this hot guy? And why has he been lingering in her mind since?
"Who are you? What the hell is going on? Are you like my guardian angel?"
He snorts. "Honey, I am no angel," he says. His saying the word "honey" gets a rise out of her. But she tries not to show it. Unless he already knows, since he can get into her mind.
"So what are you?" she asks, folding her arms. He might be cute, but she is growing impatient.
"I'm your soulmate," he says. And she is taken aback by that because she did not expect that at all. It's not every day that a hot guy comes up to you to tell you you're their soulmate.
Except it's evil hot guys who love bomb you in the beginning and then cheat on you with your best friend the next, who do such shit.
"Huh?" Jessica simply says, and all this handsome guy can do is smile some more. And God, he is attractive, there's no doubt about that. But this is bullshit.
"I know you are confused, but I am going to explain this to you slowly, but promise not to freak out."
She's not promising anything.
"Okay, I promise."
"Okay, I have been drawn to you since I met you, and I have always wondered why until you had that accident. And I knew at that moment that you were my soulmate, so I brought you back to life with a kiss. But you haven't been brought back as a human; that's why you have those claws and those eyes and why you were able to climb the building with ease."
Jessica stares at this man, confused and shocked at the same time. She believes that this man is insane, and he wants her to be insane as well. She has to get away from this man even though he's mad attractive. Pretty privilege is nothing, especially in this case.
She stares at this man, and the man stares at her, waiting for her to ask questions. She's not going to be asking any questions. She wants to make a run for it.
She doesn't know when and why, but she throws herself off the roof.
