Elara's gaze lingered on the night sky where the last traces of fireworks faded into darkness. The crowd around her began to disperse, families and couples drifting away from the riverside.

"That finale was spectacular," Caleb said beside her.

She nodded, trying to focus on the present moment rather than the unexpected encounter with Damien, Vivienne, and Cora. "It really was beautiful."

They walked along the promenade where vendors had set up stalls selling snacks and trinkets. The scent of caramel corn and cotton candy hung in the air. A small stand caught Elara's eye.

"Oh, chocolate-covered strawberries," she said, pausing. "I haven't had these in ages."

The elderly vendor smiled at her. "Fresh batch, miss. Best in town."

Elara couldn't resist. "I'll take a small box, please."
