The cold mountain air stung my cheeks as I watched Cora and the Walsh boys zip up their jackets. The resort bustled with activity—families adjusting ski equipment, instructors gathering their groups, and the constant hum of excitement filling the lodge.
"Look at the mountain, Mommy! It's so big!" Cora squealed, her breath creating small clouds in the crisp air.
I smiled, adjusting her hat. "Yes, it is. Are you excited for your lesson?"
She nodded enthusiastically, bouncing on her toes. "Can I go play with Leo and Max while we wait?"
"Stay where I can see you," I said, watching her race off to join the Walsh boys near the large window overlooking the beginner slopes.
I hadn't expected Dylan to join us on this trip. It was supposed to be my weekend with Cora—just the two of us, plus Leo and Max whom I'd promised to bring along. But Eleanor had insisted Dylan accompany us "for safety," a thinly veiled attempt to push us together.
