Chapter 239 - The Perfunctory Visit
"We should probably go," I said softly to Clara, noting Eleanor's drooping eyelids despite her attempts to stay engaged in conversation.
Dylan had disappeared over thirty minutes ago, abandoning his bedside vigil without explanation. I didn't need to guess where he'd gone—or rather, to whom. Vivienne would be waiting somewhere in the building, perhaps the cafeteria or a quiet consultation room arranged by the staff who recognized the Norton name.
Clara nodded in agreement. "Eleanor needs her rest."
"No, no," Eleanor protested weakly. "I'm perfectly fine. The company is good for me."
I smiled gently. "The nurse said you need to rest between visitors. We'll come back soon."
Eleanor's gaze drifted to the empty chair where Dylan had been sitting. "Where did my grandson disappear to? He's been gone quite a while."
"I'm sure he had some important calls to make," I offered diplomatically, though we all knew better.
