An Unsettling Morning Encounter

Chapter 256 - An Unsettling Morning Encounter

The phone's shrill ring pulled me from my dreamless sleep. I fumbled in the dark, my eyes still heavy, and checked the time: 5:43 AM. Only Julian would call at this ungodly hour.

"Tell me you've made a breakthrough," I mumbled, pressing the phone to my ear.

Julian's voice was charged with excitement. "The quantum algorithm stabilized during the overnight test run. Catherine, it's maintaining a 98.7% efficiency rate."

I sat up, sleep instantly forgotten. "That's impossible. We were hovering at 82% yesterday."

"Your reconfiguration of the memory overflow worked. I've been running diagnostics since three this morning."

I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. "Send me the data. I need to see it myself."

"Already did. But you need to come in today. The DOD representatives want a demonstration by end of week."

"I'll be there in two hours," I promised. "Let me get Cora ready for school first."
