"I cannot believe Dylan left Cora to go to the hospital with that woman!" Mom fumed, pacing across my kitchen. "What kind of father prioritizes his mistress over his own daughter?"
I massaged my temples, trying to ward off the headache that was brewing. Mom had been ranting for twenty minutes straight since I'd picked her up from her doctor's appointment.
"He's allowed to see Eleanor," I said wearily. "She is his grandmother."
"That's not the point, Catherine, and you know it! He could have taken Cora with him instead of pawning her off on some nanny. You should sue for full custody."
My phone buzzed on the counter. Cora's face lit up my screen. I stared at it, suddenly feeling overwhelmed.
"Aren't you going to answer that?" Mom demanded.
I let it ring until the call went to voicemail. "I need a minute."
Mom's expression softened slightly. "Catherine, honey..."
