Chapter 113 - Three Hours of Sanctuary

Hazel's POV

Three hours.

That's all we had left before the RV's battery died completely. Three hours of air conditioning in the sweltering summer heat. Three hours before the children would start suffering.

I stared at the energy monitor, its red warning light blinking mockingly. The solar panels on the roof had been collecting sunlight all day, but without proper maintenance and with the constant drain of running the AC for seven kids, we were burning through power faster than we could generate it.

"Shit," I whispered, pressing my palm against the display as if I could magically transfer my own energy into it.

"Problem?" Kael's deep voice came from behind me, making me jump.

I turned to find him standing in the narrow hallway, his massive frame nearly touching both walls. Even in a plain black t-shirt and jeans, he looked regal. Dangerous. Beautiful.
