"She's gone." Jacob sighed and said, "It was my fault. I wasn't careful."
"You like her, don't you? What's your relationship with her?" the girl asked.
"We were husband and wife in our past lives." A smile touched the corners of Jacob's mouth. "In our past lives, she owned me. Hence, she came to see me in this lifetime. We met once and with that, our fate ended and she left for good."
"I don't quite get you." The girl shook her head and asked, "I'm penniless now, but I'm ravenous. Can you treat me to something? I…if you think that I'm quite good-looking, I can accompany you as well."
"Let's go, I'll take you somewhere to have a bite." Jacob flashed her a smile. They turned the corner and walked into an alley. There were many stalls in the alley and most were selling snacks. Most of the hawkers were Chinese.
