Before I could finish, Dante ground his thumb into my jaw and sneered.
"Still pretending? Besides, without that ventilator, your mom would have died years ago."
"This way is better, actually. Saves me a fortune in medical bills!"
Hearing him speak of death so nonchalantly, my heart shattered into a million pieces.
Just then, the heart monitor by the bed shrieked with a piercing alarm.
A suffocating feeling washed over me. I fought desperately to break free from Dante’s grip and ran toward my mother’s bed. I was only a step away when Isabella, beside me, suddenly cried out.
"Ah! It hurts so much—"
"Dante, I feel terrible, you have to help me!"
At her words, Dante immediately ordered the bodyguards around him, "Restrain her!"
In an instant, several hulking men swarmed me, pinning me down. I thrashed like a caged animal, my screams turning hysterical.
"Let me go! Let me go!"
"My mother is waiting for me! She's waiting for me!"
In a frenzy, I sank my teeth into the arm holding me back. The next second, an electric current shot through me. The cuts from the glass shards all over my skin seared with fresh agony, beginning to ooze pus with the violent jolts.
I convulsed on the floor in pain. When I managed to lift my head, my gaze met Dante's cold, ruthless eyes and the stun gun in his hand.
"Stella, since you insist on being so defiant, then you can't blame me for being ruthless."
"Men! Move the surgery up. I want her kidney taken out, now!"
With that, several men roughly bound me in the operating room. I struggled with all my might, but there was no breaking free.
All I could do was watch helplessly as my mother's hand fell limp, and the heart monitor flatlined.
A howl of despair tore from my throat, a pain like a thousand knives twisting in my heart. It was an agony that ripped my soul apart.
The next moment, a cold needle pierced my lacerated skin, and my vision began to blur.
Before I lost consciousness, I heard Dante's cold voice:
"There can be no complications. If this one isn't viable, immediately transplant her second kidney!"
"Remember, I will not allow Isabella to be in even the slightest bit of danger!"
