Chapter 6
"What?"
I lifted my gaze, playing his game. I could see the scar on his clean cheek, just above his sharp, pale jawline, and his intense, elongated eyes gazing down at me.
‘What did he just say...? Uh...’
I opened my mouth but I was unable to speak. I had anticipated that this topic would come up eventually, but this was too direct. Direct and sudden. I knew that this would come up someday, but that was way too direct. Even if I were to bring up the topic later, I thought I would be able to turn it around and talk about it differently. He looked down at my slowly-reddening face and laughed.
"Was that really what it was about?"
Now, the action came before thought, and I quickly apologized.
"I'm sorry, you must have felt uncomfortable... I really didn't intend for that to happen."
His response left me even more bewildered.
"I didn't feel uncomfortable."
"Huh?"
"I didn't feel uncomfortable."
"Uh..."
