The Demons within

Adonis sat in the quiet of his room, moonlight trickling in through the window, bathing everything in silver. Lyra was curled up on the bed, fast asleep, her breathing soft and peaceful.

He looked at her—so innocent, so bright. Yet within her now slumbered the most feared magic in the world.

His thoughts drifted again, to a quote from a film in his previous life: "Nobody empathizes with demons… until they become demons themselves."

That line used to sound dramatic. Now it felt personal.

"I was born with a special element… sword qi. Celebrated. Admired. I never had to worry what people would say about my magic.

But those born with the dark element… they never asked for it. They didn't choose to carry what others fear. Yet the world condemned them."

He clenched his fists, nails digging into his palms."I believed those rumors. I feared them too." Adonis never been this disappointed in himself,

His eyes dropped to Lyra—still smiling in her sleep.

"How pathetic of me… only now, when it's my sister, do I realize how wrong I was."

Adonis exhaled deeply, anger and guilt twisted in his chest.

"As much I know Lyra no way she is hiding her feelings, the only logical answer is the things that are passed down not entirely true" he read in a book that dark element is sign of demons, those who truly corrupted by heart awaken dark element, he heard of story how a boy awakened dark element and slaughtered his family and friends.

"Maybe they do amplify negative emotions but not exaggerated as what passed down, there is no human who don't feel negative emotions so its highly possible that the dark elements users are falsefully blamed, creating a prejudice and since dark element users fail to control their negative feelings the fake prejudice advanced further drawing a line between, dark element and other element users"

He looked up at the ceiling, eyes sharper now, voice steady.

"I know what I want to do."

"If really dark elements users are falsefully accused then I will look into its depth and reach the truth of this matter, and maybe one day dark element users will be free from the prejudice and those who framed them get what they deserved"

He reached over and gently brushed a strand of hair from Lyra's forehead. She stirred slightly, then settled again.

Adonis whispered into the night: "This is for my atonement for believing such lie only realizing when someone close to me suffered the same"

"I will protect Lyra and return the respects the dark element users deserve."

"Now I wonder now does Rabisu suffered the same, or that is the reason he did what he did in the the village" Adonis thought looking at starry sky.
