Months zipped by, and we were well into the school One afternoon, Fari, Daina, Hani, Zoha, Adeline, and Jasmine were all strolling down one of the main hallways. It was that magical time when no teachers were around, which, as every student knows, means the fun (or chaos) is about to begin. We were just chilling, talking loudly, and laughing about nothing in particular.
Suddenly, our eyes caught onto something hilarious. A few feet away, a boy was standing, chatting with his friend. He looked completely relaxed, totally unaware that his world was about to get a whole lot more colorful. Another boy, swift as a shadow, snuck up behind him and gave his pants a mighty yank! And there it was, in all its glory: bright, teddy bear shorts!
For a split second, there was silence as everyone processed the sight. Then, we all burst into loud, uncontrollable laughter. It was impossible to hold it in! The boy with the teddy bears went beet red, his face turning the exact color of a ripe tomato. He didn't even bother to pull his pants back up. Instead, he just started running, his silly shorts flapping around his knees. He was so embarrassed and in such a rush that he tripped over his own feet and fell flat on his face! We laughed even harder, clutching our stomachs, tears streaming down our faces. It was one of those perfect, ridiculous moments that school life hands you. After he finally scrambled up and disappeared around the corner, we were still giggling and wiping our eyes as we continued our walk.
As we rounded the next bend, still chuckling, who should appear from the other end of the corridor but Mustafa and Sajjad. They were walking towards us, probably brainstorming their next big prank. The moment Daina saw them, her laughter stopped like a record scratch. Her eyes gleamed with a mischievous spark. Without a word, she started subtly, gently nudging Fari closer to Mustafa.
Mustafa, seeing us, had stopped walking. Now, he was standing directly in front of Fari, just a few inches away. Just as they were about to pass, Zoha and Adeline, seeing their golden chance, gave Fari a not-so-gentle push. Fari lost her balance and began tumbling forward, straight towards Mustafa.
And just then, as if the universe itself was setting the scene, we could faintly hear music drifting down from the floor above, where they were practicing dance. The beat was catchy, familiar. It was "One Kiss" by Dua Lipa. And as Fari stumbled, the lyrics seemed to float down to us: 🎶 One kiss is all it takes to fall in love with me 🎶 . The words hung in the air, a perfect, almost too-perfect soundtrack to the moment.
For us, it was pure movie magic. We held our breath, our teasing smiles widening into expressions of anticipation. This was it! The moment we'd all been waiting for. Fari was falling, and Mustafa, with a reflex that surprised even us, reached out, his hands finding her waist just as she stumbled. Their eyes locked, a surprised gasp escaping Fari's lips. For a heartbeat, everything else in the busy school corridor seemed to fade away. It was just them, suspended in that brief, charged moment, the lyrics of the song echoing softly around them, underscoring the undeniable connection between them. Mustafa's grip was firm but gentle, his gaze holding hers, a hint of concern mixed with something softer, something we hadn't seen in his eyes before. Fari's hands instinctively reached for his shoulders, her blush deepening, her breath catching in her throat. The air crackled with an unspoken energy, a silent promise of something more than just friendship. This was more than just an accident; it felt like a magnetic pull drawing them closer.
Then, just as the romantic tension reached its peak, the lyrics changed: 🎶 'Cause I love the way you move 🎶. And as if taking the song literally, Fari, in a desperate, last-second wiggle, somehow managed to stop herself from falling into Mustafa's arms. But instead of finding her footing, she lost her balance entirely and started falling backwards! With a surprising thud and a little yelp, she hit the floor and landed right on her head!
The air went out of our romantic bubble with a loud whoosh. The "romantic moment" had spectacularly crashed and burned, turning into the funniest, most awkward thing we'd ever seen. You should have seen it! Mustafa's facial expression was absolutely priceless. His jaw dropped, his eyes were wide, and he looked completely, utterly shocked, as if he'd just seen a ghost. His arms, still slightly outstretched, seemed confused about why Fari was suddenly on the floor in front of him. The perfectly romantic setup had ended in a truly ungraceful, cartoon-like pratfall, making it ten times funnier, especially with Dua Lipa still singing about falling in love.
Then, a less funny sound snapped us out of our laughter: the clear clatter of a teacher's footsteps coming down the corridor, getting closer! Our eyes went wide. And we all scattered like startled pigeons, leaving Fari (who we quickly helped up, of course, before making our grand escape!).
That day, Fari's face was blushing a deep shade of red all day long. Whenever Mustafa passed by, she would try to hide her face, peeking at him using Hani as a shield. And we, of course, started teasing both of them without mercy, constantly reminding them of the "almost kiss"often humming the lines from "One Kiss." But what was truly interesting was Mustafa. You could see in his eyes and the small, soft smiles he couldn't quite hide that he thought she was incredibly cute when she was shy, even after her incredibly unglamorous fall. He would blush a little too, trying to act cool and tough, but a small, happy smile would play on his lips whenever Fari tried to avoid his gaze. It seemed the awkwardness, especially with that perfectly timed song, only made things between them even more intriguing and, in a strange way, a little bit sweeter.
