Remembering the name

Lian crouched in the ruins of a once-holy battleground, where flames still whispered through ash. Fen, the fox-kin rogue, watched him with lazy curiosity.

"You're dreaming of him again," Fen said.

Lian said nothing. His blade trembled. The mark on his chest pulsed.

"You need to find him," Fen added. "Or this fire will consume you."

Lian's voice cracked. "What if he doesn't remember me?"

Fen shrugged. "Then make him. You're not one to give up."

The flames around him danced higher. Lian saw a vision Aure in moonlight, lips parted, whispering a name he had almost forgotten. His lover Aure.

And in that moment, Lian knew.

He would burn the world down to bring Aure back.

Even if it meant becoming someone else entirely.
