Chapter 23: Bringing a Vampire Home

[POV – Theo]

I really brought her home...

Looking at the vampire who was an evolution of a zombie, I felt uneasy, to say the least.

She scared me, although after attacking me the first time we met, she didn't do anything to make me suspicious of her.

Still, she was a damn level 10 evolved zombie with triple special abilities!

"Emily, right?" Mikaela said: "Daughter, come meet your mom."

From Theo's shadow, Emily emerged.

She seemed a bit shy as she stood in front of Mikaela, fidgeting a lot.

Mikaela, in turn, touched her own chin and nodded: "Not bad, you're adorable~"

'Now I get it, she's blind!'

It all made sense. She fell for me at first sight, my ass; she couldn't even see me!

"My eyes are a bit special." She said suddenly, as if she had read my thoughts: "I can see Emily's pure soul and see her true appearance."

"… I see." If that's the case, it made sense.

I also thought Emily's soul was pure and beautiful.

"If that's the case, I agree. Emily is beautiful." I said.

"Hehehee~" Emily was giddy with happiness hearing that.

'Actually, Emily likes it more when I praise her.' I felt a bit smug.

"Childish." Mikaela, who was looking at me, said while shaking her head.

"…"

"Dad, I want to watch TV~ I want to watch Frozen with mom and dad~!"

"Wait a bit, I'll grab the generator." I said, heading to the bedroom.

I sighed in relief when Mikaela didn't follow me.

I took the opportunity to grab not only the generator but also the bird I killed earlier, as well as 10 kilos of meat, and spent 4 essence to buy 2 roasted rabbits with potatoes.

Besides that, I took out all the stuff I got from the commercial area earlier, especially the clothes.

Once done, I returned with the generator first.

"Mikaela, can you… Do you like roasted rabbit with potatoes?" I asked.

"Yes, I do." She nodded.

'I almost revealed I knew she wasn't human…' I thought.

After bringing and setting up the generator and connecting everything, I grabbed the fridge and placed it in the kitchen, pulling an extension cord to the kitchen and connecting the fridge.

Then, I went and got the two roasted rabbits with potatoes first.

After placing them on the table, I went and got the 10 kilos of meat.

When I returned, I saw that Emily and Mikaela each had a rabbit leg in their hands.

"Delicious, delicious~" Emily sang while biting into the rabbit leg.

"Yes, not bad." Mikaela agreed.

I don't even know where to start. In my apartment, I had an adopted daughter who was a ghost and a girlfriend who was a vampire that evolved from a zombie.

The way the two got along so quickly made me think that maybe they knew each other in life but simply didn't remember. Perhaps that explained this strange connection they had.

After all, this was the first time I saw Emily wanting to get close to someone other than me.

[POV – Third Person]

A familiar and strange situation.

A man and a woman watching television and a little girl leaning on the back of the couch.

The strange thing in this scene was that the woman was wearing a black dress with a black overcoat with red on the inside and a wide-brimmed hat that partially covered her eyes.

Even while watching television, she held her cane while resting her feet on the small table in front of her.

The little girl, in turn, had her feet floating and was semi-transparent.

The most normal thing in this scene would be the guy, wearing casual clothes, a white t-shirt, and black sweatpants, with his light brown hair and green eyes; he seemed quite ordinary compared to the two.

"Mikaela." Theo looked at her and said suddenly: "There are clothes in that room; if you want, you can pick some and take a bath, what do you think?"

He didn't want to say this before, but the smell of blood coming from her was very strong.

Looking at him, she tilted her head while pondering.

After a short three-second pause that felt like hours, Theo heard her say, "I'll do that," as she stood up.

Theo also stood up. He went to the bathroom, and while Mikaela went to pick out clothes in the next room, he went to the bathtub and filled it with gallons of water, then started generating lightning in his hand and placed his hands in the water.

*Bubbling~*

Gradually, the water began to bubble. Removing his hand, he left the bathroom after leaving hygiene products for Mikaela to use.

As he was about to leave and turned around, he saw Mikaela at the door with some plastic bags containing clothes.

"I've already prepared the water for you; if it's too hot, you can add more cold water from the gallon." Theo said, walking toward her.

Stepping back a bit, she let him pass.

"Thank you." She said.

A bit surprised, he turned around, but she had already entered the bathroom and closed the door.

Well, anyway.

He didn't think too much about it and returned to the couch.

Looking in Emily's direction, he wanted to give her some warnings.

For example, not to talk in front of Mikaela about his ability to store things.

However, he didn't know how good Mikaela's hearing was. A normal zombie already had enhanced hearing since they relied solely on it. Now, an evolved zombie turned vampire, how good would her hearing be? Or perhaps her hearing didn't improve because she regained her other senses?

The current situation was worse than when he met Emily. At least with Emily, back then, he was confident that even if he couldn't win, he could escape from her. But Mikaela was different; she didn't seem to have any visible weaknesses, and she was much stronger than him.

'Actually, I'm worrying for nothing.' Theo thought: 'Precisely because she's stronger than me, if she wanted to, I'd already be dead.'

When he thought like that, he visibly relaxed.

In the end, it didn't matter the real reason she wanted to be his girlfriend; the simple fact that she only attacked the first time they met but afterward did nothing to make him believe he would be attacked made her at least trustworthy enough not to stay on guard against her. After all, even if he was on guard, with her speed, what could he do?

If he wanted some sense of security, the best thing was to become more powerful than her.

'Never go out at night, but I'll go out to hunt ghosts.' Theo thought.

At night, the number of ghosts was absurd. If he went out and hunted some, he could get enough cores to level up once or twice.

"It's funny how some distance~

Makes everything seem small~

And the fears that once controlled me~

Can't get to me at all~~"

While Emily watched Frozen and sang along with the music, Theo went to the kitchen.

Thinking of something, he started doing some cleaning in the kitchen. He swept the floor and dusted.

Taking the electric induction stove, he connected it to the same extension cord as the fridge and a lamp to light up the kitchen.

After turning on the stove, he placed a clean frying pan on it.

...

Minutes later, Mikaela came out of the bathroom.

She walked to the kitchen.

Seeing her, Theo was stunned.

She no longer wore that wide-brimmed black hat. Now Theo could see her face perfectly, and… it was breathtaking.

Wet black hair and red eyes. A symmetrical face that fit in the palm of his hand with a small, pointed nose.

Although her eyes were a bit scary, they were equally beautiful.

Before, the clothes she wore didn't make it so obvious, but now he could see that her breasts were larger than they seemed. With a very slim waist, her breasts stood out even more under the tight, long-sleeved gray top that showed her navel.

The dark blue jeans also fit perfectly, showing off her flawless curves.

"You look beautiful." He said.

Caught off guard, Mikaela showed a reaction different from her usual indifferent and cool expression. She blushed a little while lowering her head, then looked up to meet his eyes.

"Thank you." Her voice was soft and sweet as she murmured those words. She smiled a little at the end.

For a moment, Theo forgot she was a vampire and, on top of that, much stronger than him. He thought: 'Her smile is beautiful.'

After that, Mikaela simply turned and left.

'Why did she come?' Theo was confused, but still, he continued frying the meat steaks.

...

Later, Theo brought the fried steaks. On purpose, he made some rare.

As he expected, those were the ones Mikaela chose to eat and ate.
