The Dying Avatar

Kenshin ran to the dungeon gate. The official posting listed the dungeon level as "Easy," with a minimum party requirement of four.

A security team from the government stood guard. Kenshin went to them and showed his new card. One of the guards shook his head.

"This is a private dungeon. The Lion Guild bought it."

"What? The government sells dungeons to guilds?"

"Yes. There's a bidding app. Guilds bid, and the highest bidder gets the rights to clear the dungeon and claim all rewards. Sometimes they lose money, sometimes they hit a jackpot. Go back. You can't enter. Only the Lion Guild's chosen can go in."

"Okay, don't push. I'm going."

Kenshin stepped away. I have to do something. I have to get into this dungeon. I don't even have a phone to see this app.

The leader of the guild party approached him. "Hey, you. Are you a Chosen? What's your rank?"

"It's 6, sir."

"Okay. I have two Rank 6 trainees with me, but they can't carry our belongings. You can come with us and hold our bags. Don't expect a big share. You should be proud to enter a dungeon with The Lion Guild."

"I accept."

The leader told the security team to let him join. He then turned to his group.

"Everyone ready? Let's go!"

They stepped through the gate.

Infinit: This is going to be fun.

"What's fun about fighting and killing? What's wrong with you?"

They were inside the dungeon it was a mountain with lava. 

Their goal was the peak, where the boss waited. The air was hot.

As they walked, the party leader grunted. "It's so hot."

The other Rank 5 and 6 Chosen were panting and sweating. But Kenshin felt nothing. He carried four bags. Why can't I feel the heat? I'm not even warm.

Infinit: Thanks to me. I activated SSS Super Heat Resistance before you entered. I knew this was a fire dungeon. By the way, good luck clearing this with this group.

"Whaaaaaat?"

Outside the dungeon, a security guard checked the gate's stability readings again. The difficulty reading was wrong. It now said "Hard." 

He grabbed the original measuring device they had used. It still read "Easy." He pointed it at a wall. "Easy." He pointed it at his partner. "Easy."

"The device is broken! It says everything is Easy! Call the Lion Guild Master now! Send help! The strongest one in that group is a Rank 4!"

Another guard shook his head. 

"No one can enter now. The gate is sealed until the group inside is dead or they clear it."

Back in the dungeon, the first monster appeared. It was a rabbit made of rock and lava. It moved at a speed a Rank 6 couldn't see. It smelled the food in the bag on Kenshin's back and charged him.

Kenshin ran. "Why me? Oh my god, he's going to burn me and eat me like a marshmallow!"

Infinit: Just punch it. It's only a rabbit.

"Do you see its eyes? They're on fire! That's Satan's pet, not a rabbit!"

The Lava Rabbit closed in. Just as it leaped for his bag, the Rank 4 leader appeared with his sword and killed the rabbit.

"Go back! Stay with the group! We can't defend you if you're far away."

Kenshin nodded. The rabbit's corpse was on the ground.

Infinit: You can absorb it. Do you accept?

> Yes / No

> 

How do I absorb it? Yes!

A black flame from Kenshin's hand covered the rabbit's body. 

In a second, it was gone.

> Notification

> Super Speed Ability added.

> Heat Resistant Ability added ((Duplicate)).

> You can bind them to a better version.

> Yes / No (Remove the second one)

> 

Yes.

> Notification

> Heat Resistance binding... loading...

> Done.

> Nuclear Resistant Added.

Whaaat? Just like that? A nuclear attack can't burn me?

Infinit: The first ability was SSS rank. It just needed a little more power to evolve to its final version.

They continued walking, Kenshin at the back of the group.

You're amazing, he thought.

Infinit: Yeah, I know.

Now I can move fast, and no fire can burn me. Basically, I'm a god.

Just as he had the thought, the team leader screamed. "Everyone, be careful!"

A line of fire shot from the mountain peak. It struck Kenshin in the chest and threw him into a cavern wall. His ribs broke, and he screamed in pain.

The party leader yelled. "What's happening? Why is the boss on this layer?"

The beast appeared in their midst. It slaughtered them one by one. Soon, only the Rank 4 leader remained.

Kenshin lay on the ground, his eyes open, watching the fight. Why? he thought. Even with a second chance, I'm weak. 

I can't fight. Why do I have to go through this again?

He watched the boss cut the Rank 4 Chosen in half. He stood up, ignoring the pain of his broken ribs.

"I will kill you!"

The beast vanished from its spot and reappeared directly in front of Kenshin. It grabbed him by the neck.

"The Lord told me to say hello to Infinit. Did she think I couldn't find him? This is the third time I will kill his avatar."

Infinit was silent.

The beast twisted its hand. Kenshin's neck snapped. He was dead.
