A Mother's Desperate Bargain

AURORA

"Another Selena?" I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper.

Isabella's words hung in the air between us like poison. The comparison stung more than I wanted to admit.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked, straightening my spine.

Isabella sighed, her perfectly manicured hand resting on the doorknob. Instead of leaving, she turned back toward me.

"Someone who comes between my sons," she clarified. Her blue eyes—so much like Kian's—held mine. "Again."

My breath caught. "Again?"

Isabella's mouth tightened into a thin line. She moved back into the room, her expensive perfume trailing behind her.

"You don't know, do you?" She studied my face carefully. "After all these years as Liam's friend, and he never told you about Selena and Kian?"

My stomach dropped. "What about them?"

"Interesting." She lowered herself back into the armchair. "Ten years of friendship, and he kept that from you."
