The Garden of Silence

The Hollow War III

---

"Where the voices stop, the truth begins." Inscription on the Garden Gate

---

Southern Edge of Arcanhelm – Just Before Dusk

The sky had bled into violet.

Kael and Lireen stood before an iron gate coiled in ivy, flanked by statues of weeping angels whose faces had been long eroded by time and tears. The Garden of Silence loomed beyond—where even the birds refused to sing.

Kael whispered, "You feel it?"

Lireen nodded. "This place remembers."

The gate opened on its own.

They stepped into the silence.

---

Inside the Garden – The Whispering Path

Their boots made no sound on the gravel.

The trees were twisted into shapes of agony and grace. Flowers bloomed in eerie stillness, petals unmoving even under the wind. There were graves hundreds marked only with single feathers.

A single path stretched ahead, lit by lanterns with no flames.

Kael: "This is a place built to mourn... but for who?"

Lireen: "For those who remembered too much. Or said too little."

They walked in silence, hands brushing.

---

Center of the Garden – The Architect's Stone

They reached a clearing. A monolith stood at the center, wrapped in spiraling glyphs that glowed faintly blue.

As Kael touched the stone, a jolt ran through his body.

> Memory unlocked.

He saw flashes:

A child born with eyes of silver fire.

An old woman screaming into the void as the stars vanished.

A man kneeling before a throne of broken wings.

Kael collapsed. Lireen caught him.

> "Kael! What did you see?"

Kael gasped. "The Architect... had a son. Hidden. Buried here."

Lireen looked at the monolith. "Then this is no grave. It's a prison."

The earth trembled.

A fissure opened behind them.

---

Below the Garden – The Chamber of First Silence

They descended.

A spiral staircase led them into a vast underground hall carved from obsidian and lined with statues each a former Feather of the Court.

At the center lay a sarcophagus sealed in molten glass.

Kael approached. The glass pulsed.

A whisper filled the chamber:

> "Speak, heir of breath. Unseal me."

Kael turned to Lireen. "Should I?"

Lireen hesitated. "What if it's not him?"

> "Then we learn. Or we burn."

Kael traced the seal with his finger. The glyphs split apart.

The glass shattered.

---

Emergence – The Silent Prince

From the sarcophagus rose a boy no older than sixteen with hair like moonlight and lips sealed by threads of silver.

His eyes opened.

Kael staggered back. Lireen covered her mouth.

> "Who are you?" Kael whispered.

The boy touched his own lips. The threads fell apart.

> "I... am Aethen. Son of the Architect."

The chamber shuddered. The statues wept tears of black ink.

> Aethen: "They thought silence would keep me caged. But truth is louder in the quiet."

He turned to them both.

> "I've waited for you, Kael. For the one who wears the Fang and the Feather."

---

Aboveground – Garden Shaking

Stormclouds churned. From afar, a shriek tore through the heavens.

Lireen looked up. "That sound... it's not human."

Kael: "The Hound. It's found us."

Aethen: "Then we run, or we teach it to fear silence."

He raised his hand. The Garden bloomed in silver fire.

And the chase began.
