The phone shattered into pieces the moment it hit the floor.
Seeing me frozen there in disbelief, Jessica shot me a triumphant glance, as if to say, "The phone's broken now. What are you going to do about it?"
A vicious glint flashed in my eyes.
I lunged forward and grabbed a fistful of Jessica's hair.
I unleashed a torrent of slaps across her face, left and right, screaming,
“You slut! You really think I'm some kind of pushover? You dare smash my phone? You love playing the sick little damsel, don't you? Well, today I'm going to make you a real patient!”
I moved so fast that Marcus didn't even have time to stop me.
By the time he pulled me off of Jessica, her delicate face was already red and swollen, blood was streaming from her nose, and she was wailing hysterically,
“Marcus, that bitch hit me! It hurts so much! Help me, kill this bitch! My face, ahhh!!”
Before David could even open his mouth, Marcus’s heart ached for her.
He grabbed me by the collar and slapped me like a man possessed.
“You psycho! How dare you touch Jessica? I'll make you pay the price for hurting her!”
I struggled with all my might, but the disparity in strength between us was too great.
Pinned against the wall, I could only watch helplessly as he slapped me again and again, until my mouth filled with the taste of blood.
My strength was failing, and I was about to collapse.
Marcus's friends finally panicked, rushing to hold back the crazed Marcus: "Enough, enough, Marcus! You're going to kill her."
Marcus finally calmed down and spat on me.
He and his crew then turned and left.
As he walked away, David shot me a long, meaningful glance.
I, however, had been beaten to the point of blacking out and was completely oblivious.
In the end, it was the restaurant staff who sent me to the hospital.
The next time I woke up, I was lying in a hospital room.
Suddenly, my phone rang.
It was Marcus.
I struggled to answer it.
Marcus's arrogant voice immediately came through the phone:
"So, how does it feel to be beaten? Not very pleasant, is it? You won't escape the suffering that Jessica endured, you bitch!"
"We'll call it even. As long as you learn your place and keep your mouth shut to protect Jessica's reputation, I might still consider marrying you. Otherwise, a crazy woman like you can expect to spend the rest of her life locked up in a mental institution."
With that, he hung up.
I clenched my fists, hating that I couldn't just go and murder that bastard Marcus.
That damned couple. They were the ones who had done something so foul, yet they had the gall to pin all the blame on me.
But I couldn't throw away the rest of my life for a scumbag like him.I forced myself to calm down and devise a plan.
Just then, the young nurse from the clinic's front desk suddenly sent me a message:
[Eliza, this is bad! Dr. Marcus just withdrew all the money from the clinic's account. Payroll is due soon, what are we going to do?]
An idea flashed through my mind.
A cold smile touched my lips as I sent a few reassuring words to the nurse.
Marcus was so arrogant, thinking he was all that just because he had a clinic.
But what no one knew was that I was the clinic's biggest investor.
Back when I had just met Marcus, my parents had warned me.
Always leave yourself an escape route.
I had even thrown a fit about it back then.
But looking at it now…
The saying 'people's hearts are fickle' wasn't just a simple proverb; it was a bloody, painful truth.
Since Marcus decided to be ruthless, he couldn't blame me for being merciless.
During my days in the hospital, I recovered from my injuries while contacting a lawyer to help me withdraw my investment in the clinic.
As for the private investigator, he was also keeping an eye on Marcus and Jessica for me.
I watched with cold eyes as Marcus took the money from the clinic's account and whisked Jessica away on a trip to the Caribbean.
The two of them splurged and shopped without a care in the world.
They were lovey-dovey on the beach.
With a cold smirk, I saved every single photo.
Because these photos would be the sharpest weapons to destroy that bastard and his bitch.
Two weeks later, Marcus and Jessica returned from the Caribbean.
But the moment they got back to the clinic, they couldn't believe their eyes.
