It was already dark when I woke up.
My entire body ached as if it had been crushed, and I couldn't lift my legs.
But I gritted my teeth and slapped myself twice, forcing myself to move.
Even if it was just her body, I had to take Lilly home.
I couldn't stand, so I had to crawl painstakingly, searching every corner of the hospital. I even went to the morgue.
But Lilly was nowhere to be found.
With nowhere left to turn, I crawled back to Mia's hospital room, step by step, wanting to beg Felix to tell me where Lilly was.
But by the time I finally made it back to that hell, the room was long empty.
In despair, I turned, only to have a handful of white powder thrown in my face, sending me sprawling pathetically to the ground.
Amber swung a luxury handbag smugly. "I was kind enough to bring your daughter's ashes back. Don't you want them?"
I frantically kowtowed to her, begging her to give me what was left.
But the ashes still scattered through the air, drifting down. I scrambled madly to gather them, but she only laughed even harder.
“Your daughter was a tough one when she was alive. You should have heard how horrifically she screamed during the cremation.”
“Don’t say it, I’m begging you, don’t say it…”
I covered my ears, breaking down, but her voice seemed to echo in my mind along with Lilly’s tormented screams.“One little burn, one little scream. Just like a squeaky toy, so much fun. It's a shame you didn't get to see it.”
A pain exploded in my chest, as if my heart had been ripped open.
Suddenly, an angry voice cut in.
“Chloe, where did you hide Lilly! Why can't I find her?”
It was Felix.
He was finally willing to listen to me, but it was all too late.
I could only curl into a ball in agony.
Felix frowned. In his eyes, my grief over losing our daughter was still just a ploy for his attention.
“I know you can't be without Lilly. I'll let you see her once a week from now on. Are you done making a scene?”
I shook my head, a bitter smile on my face, as I clutched the ashes in my palm.
“Lilly is in critical condition right now. Are you really going to be this stubborn and delay her treatment!”
Tears streamed down my face. “It’s your fault Lilly’s dead! She’s dead!”
My hoarse, desperate scream echoed endlessly down the hospital corridor.
The anger on Felix’s face vanished. “Impossible! She promised she would dance for me today!”
“You’re lying to me, aren’t you? You’d make up a lie like this just to keep Lilly for yourself? She’s so good, so little… how could she possibly be dead!”His voice trembled as he demanded I make myself clear, but when I opened my mouth, not a single word would come out.
Suddenly, an employee from the funeral home rushed over.
“Is Lilly’s family here? Your daughter’s urn hasn’t been collected yet!”
Felix’s pupils constricted, as if he’d been struck by lightning.
