Yaelle planned to tell her brother about this method, but she did not need it for her own shop. There were refrigerators in the space, more than one. At night, she poured several basins and buckets of water into the refrigerators, and by morning, it all turned to ice.

She could make ice several times a day this way.

She secretly hid in her room to experiment with making ice. This process required saltpeter, water, and a sealed container. Saltpeter could be found in the pharmacy and was cheap. She bought a few bags.

The container needed to be dry, clean, and able to seal tightly. She used a large storage box in her space, which was barely suitable.

She put the saltpeter into the storage box, then placed a basin filled with clean water inside. She added enough water to dissolve the saltpeter completely. The experiment she did at school used about a 1:1 ratio, so she tried that first.

Dissolving took time, so she stirred with chopsticks to help it dissolve faster, then covered the box.

She left the container with the saltpeter solution in a cool, shaded place. As the temperature dropped, the water in the solution began to freeze. This took a few hours. She did not want to stay and watch, so she went to sleep first.

She woke up in the middle of the night, maybe because she was restless. She quickly got up and went to the storage box.

Because it was dark, she carried the box into her space and opened the lid. The solution had fully cooled. The water in the basin had already frozen.

She could take it out now to cool drinks. But she was afraid it would melt if she took it out, so she left it in the space and decided to show her brother the next morning.

The next day, Yaelle got up early, asked Attendant Sean to carry the storage box out, and they went to find Michael in the yard.

She thought about Attendant Sean's shocked and stunned face when he saw the ice basin. She wanted to laugh at how easily she surprised people from the past.

She had to thank the advanced education of the 21st century.

Seeing his sister rush to find him so early, Michael was surprised. He asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"

"It is something, but it's a big good thing." Seeing his worried look, Yaelle burst out laughing.

"Oh, what good thing do you want to share with me now?" Michael raised his eyebrows, interested.

"Brother, look at this." Yaelle asked Attendant Sean to bring the basin over for Michael to see.

"This is... ice?"

"This is ice I made." Yaelle said proudly.

"How did you do it?" Michael asked curiously.

Yaelle told him the process of making ice and emphasized the role of saltpeter.

Michael thought for a moment. "If we can produce ice in large quantities, maybe we can sell it in summer to make money."

Yaelle smiled slightly. "Yes, we can make ice in large amounts, and saltpeter is cheap for bulk buying. But we can't sell the ice. Currently, the ice market is controlled by powerful groups. If we try to enter, we will offend them. We can't beat these people. They are backed by the royal family.

The ice in the ice cellars is mostly for the royal family. They only sell leftovers, and the price is very high. Our ice is cheap. Selling it like this might not be wise."

"How should we sell ice then?" Michael asked.

"Ice bowls, slushies, or chilled drinks made from this will definitely be popular." Yaelle said excitedly.

"We need to prepare some tools and materials first." Michael analyzed logically.

"Hmm, let me think…" Yaelle paused, "We also need molds, sugar, and fruit."

"I'll send someone to look for them." Michael said as he was about to leave.

Yaelle grabbed him and said, "Brother, the watermelons I planted seem to be ripe these days. Should we go pick them together? Frozen watermelon will definitely be popular." The watermelons had been planted for three months and were almost ripe. She had even knocked on one in the field two days ago. The first batch weighed about twelve to thirteen jin, with some over fifteen jin. Although not as big as the watermelons she bought at first and not a specially cultivated variety, they grew quite well, thanks to Helper Beau's careful care.

"Watermelon? Alright, let's go see what this so-called watermelon is tomorrow." They took their attendants and went to the watermelon field behind.

Yaelle picked a very appealing watermelon and tapped it. The sound was dull, which meant it was ripe; an unripe one sounds crisp. "This one should be ripe. Listen to the sound. If it sounds like a 'pong pong' when tapped, it should be ripe. Let's cut it open." She picked the watermelon from the vine and cut it on the table with a knife. Sure enough, it made a crisp cracking sound, and with some force, it split into two halves. The flesh was very deep red, the seeds had turned black, and juice flowed out onto the table. The bright red color looked very delicious.

"I was right to choose this. It's ripe and ready to eat." She continued cutting the watermelon into small pieces and gave some to everyone.

Michael stared at the bright red watermelon, a little stunned. What kind of melon grows this big? The bright red color looks safe, right?

While Michael was still stunned, Yaelle took the first bite and sighed. A sweet and refreshing taste swept over her. The cold watermelon in the morning immediately cooled down the heat inside her body. Summer is truly perfect for watermelon; it feels so good.

Before Michael could stop her, he saw his sister take several big bites and asked, "How is it? Is it really edible? Maybe spit it out first and call a doctor before letting others try."

Yaelle laughed and spat out the watermelon in her mouth, coughing a few times before calming down. This scared Michael a lot.

"It's fine. I ate one a few days ago. It's not poisonous." Yaelle said, lying to him.

"What? You ate one a few days ago and didn't tell me? This is something I've never seen. Shouldn't you have someone test it first? What if something happens?" Michael's temples throbbed. He had never realized his sister was so bold. If anything happened, how would he explain to his superiors? The whole courtyard might get punished.

"I'm fine, aren't I? Next time when I have something new, I'll let others try it first. Okay?" Yaelle said seriously. She knew these things were safe, but others didn't. She didn't want to scare her brother.

Michael was finally satisfied and focused on the watermelon. He took a gentle bite. The taste was like nothing he had ever had: sweet, cool, and juicy. It quenched thirst and felt very good. Seeing the young masters and ladies eat it, others quickly followed. Everyone gave it a unanimous positive review.
