Chapter 35 – The Forbidden Archives

The wind whispered softly through the ancient pines, brushing against the black jade rooftops of the Silent Soul Sect.

But deep underground, several meters beneath the surface, all was still.

The Forbidden Archives.

A place most disciples didn't even know existed. Even among the elders, few had the right to enter. And only those whose minds had crossed certain thresholds could decipher what was hidden within.

Today, for the first time in two centuries, those doors would open.

Shen Mu stood before the entrance, flanked by Mei Lin and the Sect Master.

The latter raised his hand and pressed his blood seal against the obsidian stele.

A deep rumble answered.

The stone cracked silently, and a pale light emerged from within.

— "You won't stay long," said the Master. "An hour at most. And… don't touch anything unless it invites you."

Shen Mu nodded silently, then stepped inside.

The corridor was lined with ancient symbols. Not carved, but alive. They hovered faintly in the air, as if waiting to be read.

A staircase led downward into a vast circular hall, hushed and shrouded in a thin mist.

Dozens of scrolls rested on stone pedestals, sealed by chains of spiritual energy. And yet, as soon as Shen Mu crossed the threshold, a single old scroll at the center clicked open.

He approached it, eyes fixed on the manuscript.

Without touching it, he simply sat down cross-legged before it.

The scroll slowly unfurled on its own.

And he read.

Words ancient, in a language he had never learned… but somehow understood effortlessly.

"When the Heavens fell into silence, a being was born from the void.

It had no name, no breath, no home.

But its gaze alone could shake the foundations of the world.

It was the Bearer of the Void.

Its return would be preceded by three signs:

The Soundless Wind.

The Masterless Sword.

And the awakening of an ancient bloodline."

Shen Mu closed his eyes.

A chill crawled up his spine.

— "The wind… the sword… and now… the blood," he whispered.

He felt a warmth rising from his dantian to his heart.

The bloodline fragment pulsed gently, as if awakening to those very words.

Suddenly, a second scroll began to tremble a few meters away.

Then a third.

And a fourth.

But the system issued no warnings. No messages. No prohibitions.

Only… a breath in the air.

[An ancient presence is stirring within the archives.]

The fourth scroll slowly unrolled.

This time, it wasn't a legend.

It was a technique.

[New Technique Available: "The Thousand Silences of the Void" – Fragment 1/3]

[A path parallel to conventional cultivation, focused on erasure, invisibility, and the nullification of all hostility. Requires a stable mind and an affinity with the Void.]

Shen Mu opened his eyes. He felt no excitement, no fear. Only… clarity.

— "That was just the first key."

As he stood, ready to leave the chamber, the scrolls sealed themselves once more in deep quiet.

As if acknowledging that he had seen only what he was meant to.

No more, no less.

Outside the archives, Mei Lin was still waiting, wide-eyed.

— "Well?" she asked, curious.

He walked toward her slowly, then replied simply:

— "Some secrets don't sleep. They wait."

Then he passed by her.

Mei Lin asked no further questions.

But she understood that something had changed.

Not just in Shen Mu…

But perhaps in the world itself.
