Chapter 19: Missing

Freya’s POV

The shriek cut through the cafeteria like a siren.

Everything stopped—the chatter, the clatter of trays, even the music playing faintly from the overhead speakers. Heads turned. Forks paused mid-air. And I froze where I stood, half a step from the next table.

The scream came from Stella’s table.

No surprise there.

I turned slowly, my eyes locking on the girl to Stella’s left. She was already on her feet, her voice pitched high and dramatic.

“My bracelet!” she cried. “It’s gone!”

People were watching now. Whispering.

She held out her wrist like it was a crime scene, turning it from side to side as if the missing accessory might magically reappear under better lighting.

The manager came rushing over from behind the counter, his apron swinging behind him.

“What’s the issue here?” he asked, his voice loud but professional as he approached the table. “Miss, are you alright?”

The girl nodded frantically. “My bracelet is missing. It was just here—just now. I swear!”
