Chapter 26: Deal

Clarence’s POV

After Stella stormed off, the corridor felt too quiet.

I didn’t move right away. Just stood there, letting the silence press down. My gaze drifted to the other end, where Freya stood half-shrouded in shadow, her hoodie bunched at the wrists, the faint smear of stage makeup still clinging beneath her jaw.

She looked... shaken.

Embarrassed. Tense. Like a bird that had flown straight into glass and was still trying to figure out which way was up.

I took a slow step toward her.

She didn’t speak.

Neither did I.

Because right now, there were no words that wouldn’t sound like judgment. And I wasn't going to judge her again without listening to her reason.

“Come with me,” I said instead, quiet and certain.

She hesitated for a moment, as if deciding whether to trust me. Then she nodded.

We stepped out through the side exit into the street’s dim hush.

Freya kept her gaze down, her hands fidgeting at her sides, fingers twisting the edge of her sleeve.
