Even Kerwin blinked in surprise.

Stella straightened her shoulders slightly, still clutching her elbow like it ached. “She didn’t mean to grab me. I lost my balance on my own. It was a misunderstanding.”

“I mean,” she added with a small, apologetic laugh, “we’re classmates. We have our differences, sure—but that doesn’t mean we need to make a scene out of every little bump.”

Every eye shifted to her.

The administrators exchanged looks. Even the older faculty member who’d asked my department a few minutes ago nodded slowly, his expression softening.

Kerwin’s sharp gaze lingered on Stella, then turned back to me. He seemed to be weighing something.
