After the maid turned off the light and closed the door, Shi Lan opened his eyes. When he realized she had left, he got out of bed and took something out from under the bed. It was a wooden box painted with a girl holding a jade ring of white color mixed with purple. The ring was engraved with lotus flowers and purple nemesia flowers. The ring was very beautiful and made a person want to try it on, even just once.
He looked at it and said with a sad face, "Brother, I failed to become a sword trader, and now I'm being abandoned. I don't know where I will go. Father said I must go tomorrow to the Blue Sea Sect, but I really don't want to go."
His voice was shaky, and under his eyes was red as if he was about to cry.
Shi Lan put the ring back in the box, slid it under the bed, and went to sleep.
But there was a white bird watching Shi Lan from the window.
Elsewhere, there was a man sitting on a golden throne, resting his hand on his cheek. His hair was white like snow, with strands that made you feel that if you touched them, they would be sharp like a sword. He looked with golden eyes, like a sea of gold, and resembled a wolf watching its prey.
He was looking at a crystal, and that crystal showed him Shi Lan sleeping. He smiled and said in a terrifying yet calm voice, "The little child is talking about his miserable life with a jade ring. Really, this child is extremely cute."
He looked at the Blue Dragon and said in a low voice, "Xiu Xin, is that all you want to tell me?"
The dragon looked at him nervously and fearfully and said quickly, "No, no, sir. You don't understand. This child is not an ordinary child. He doesn't have the evil-intention gem. This has never happened before and will never happen again."
The man with the golden eyes sighed and said in a threatening voice, "Xiu Xin, don't bother me with these trivial things. If the world is about to be destroyed, I don't care. I don't care if all people are killed. Do you understand?"
The dragon felt helpless and said in a low voice, "I understand, sir. Thank you for listening to me. I must go now."
After the dragon left, the man looked again at Shi Lan. Shi Lan was sleeping peacefully, his face like an angel. He said in a low voice, "This little angel should not be in this disgusting world."
In the early morning, the maid came and opened the door. She said loudly, "Young master, it's time to wake up. You must get ready."
Shi Lan opened his eyes, looked at the maid, and asked, "Big sister, what's that in your hand?"
The maid smiled excitedly and said, "This is the official uniform of the Blue Sea Sect. The sect leader told me that from now on, you will be the new disciple of the sect. So you must wear this official uniform, okay?"
Shi Lan nodded and went to the bathroom. After bathing, he sat on the chair, and the maid began tying his hair.
Shi Lan felt sad. He didn't like having his hair tied because his father's friend once told him that when he ties his hair, his face looks disgusting. That's why he hates tying his hair. But he felt that if he said this, it would make the maid sad. He sighed gently and said, "Thank you, big sister."
The maid smiled and said, "I'm done."
Shi Lan stood up wearing the official sect uniform. The uniform was white with clouds drawn beneath it, and his hair was tied with a white ribbon.
Shi Lan went to the dining table. Everyone was staring at him. He sat quietly. But suddenly, four children started crying and shouted loudly, "Brother, don't go! Please don't go! I don't want you to go!"
The mothers tried to silence them. Shi Lan smiled gently and said, "It's okay. I will come back to visit soon. If you don't cry, I'll come back like lightning, okay?"
When he said this, the children started wiping their eyes from crying.
His aunt looked at him and said in a low voice, "Thank you, Shi Lan."
Shi Lan smiled gently and said, "It's okay."
The women also began to cry. When the children cried, no one could calm them down, but Shi Lan was the only one who could control them with a single word. But when Shi Lan leaves, no one knows what will happen.
A sweet little girl said, "Brother Shi Lan, will you really come back?"
All the children looked at him, waiting for his answer.
Shi Lan nodded. When the girl saw this, she became happy, and so did all the children—even his cousin who used to bully him looked upset for some reason.
After finishing the meal, they went outside. The children tried not to cry.
As for his first, second, and third aunts and his uncle's wife and all the women, they were talking about the importance of mental and emotional health and gave him lots of food. Shi Lan was happy with these gifts.
After that, he got into the carriage, and everyone started crying—even the maids.
The carriage began moving to go to the Blue Sea Sect.
His uncle's wife smiled and said, "I will miss this little one. Even though he's useless, he's extremely sweet."
A woman came and said, "Why all this crying over this useless child? It's better that he's gone. He was like a parasite."
His uncle's wife got angry and looked at her with annoyance.
That woman smiled and said, "Stop pretending to be noble. You and I both know very well that if this child were smart, he would become the sect leader of the Sword Traders. That means your son and mine would get nothing."
His uncle's wife became tense and looked at Wu Shi, who didn't care about the conversation. She said, "Right, why didn't your wife come? Is she so busy that she couldn't see her son before he leaves? Didn't she tell him?"
She was trying to joke, but when she saw Wu Shi's terrifying gaze, she was shocked. Wu Shi finally remembered his wife, who knew nothing. But when she finds out, she will definitely kill him.
