Chapter 42: Choosing a Pokémon Egg

After three days, the online buzz surrounding the Baby Cup gradually began to fade. The number of new customers visiting the breeding shop each day had settled into a stable flow. Including repeat customers, about a hundred people came by daily to buy energy cubes.

Most of them were returning customers.

But each day still brought Lin Feng quite a few special rewards.

Among the rarer ones were various TMs and some unique treasures.

Moves like Grassy Glide, Aqua Tail, Grass Pledge, Flamethrower, Safeguard, Surf, and Hurricane...

Lin Feng taught most of these to Snivy and the others. The ones that didn't suit his Pokémon, he kept aside, thinking he might sell them in the future.

More common were certain berries with unique boosting effects.

Lin Feng was already considering finding a good moment to transform those berries into special-effect energy cubes as well.

That way, he could attract stronger trainers to his shop.

After all, basic energy cubes for stamina and maintenance could only draw in newer trainers.

And the system's rule was clear:

The stronger the joyful Pokémon, the better the rewards.

A slight regret, however, was that his Douyin account didn't seem to have caught the attention of ByteDance. It had only gained some traction thanks to the traffic wave from the Baby Cup.

Right now, he had only about ten thousand followers.

Not a huge number, but the account's conversion rate and watch-through rate were high.

Most viewers were captivated by Milotic, whose beauty shone like a water goddess in his videos, its slender body swaying on the water's surface, spraying delicate droplets over the vegetable fields.

In the sunlight, the shimmering water reflected Milotic's elegant figure, creating a perfect scene.

"Damn, a Milotic? You actually have it watering vegetables? That's such a waste! If it were mine, I'd be worshipping it like a treasure!"

"So beautiful! Content creator, how did you catch such a well-behaved Milotic?"

"Isn't that simple? Catch it when it's still a Feebas. That way, it'll basically be devoted to you forever..."

"But... but I don't have enough money to buy a Prism Scale..."

Given this situation, Lin Feng felt all he needed was the right opportunity... one viral video, and the account would truly take off.

Perhaps in the future, he could even expand to online sales?

He could sell his energy cubes to trainers across all the Pokémon Leagues!

Let Pokémon everywhere experience joy!

Walking out of the plantation, Lin Feng daydreamed blissfully about the endless system rewards he might earn someday.

Then he glanced at his account stats. Yesterday's video had over fifty thousand views, more than three thousand likes, and over eight hundred comments.

It left him feeling ambitious yet grounded, realizing that big dreams still required steady, incremental progress.

After giving Qin Shu some instructions to look after the breeding shop and to call him if anything came up, Lin Feng set off with Snivy.

Because the number of people traveling in and out of the town had increased lately, the bus driver, who used to make only one round trip per day, was now coming and going far more frequently.

However, this brought some new issues.

Standing at the edge of town, Lin Feng turned to Snivy and said, "Now that you've evolved, you can't ride the bus anymore."

After evolving, Snivy's length was about 1.45 meters. Pokémon of that size weren't allowed on public transportation.

"Snivy..."

Snivy glanced at its own body and suddenly thought that maybe it had been pretty good not to evolve after all.

Its hands were shorter after evolving... plus, it couldn't lie sprawled out on Lin Feng anymore...

The moment that thought surfaced, Snivy shook its head to banish it.

Wangwang Supermarket

Following the signs, Lin Feng quickly found the person in charge: Chi Heng.

Chi Heng stood right outside the supermarket entrance. When he saw Lin Feng, he immediately flashed a fawning smile.

"You're here!"

Chi Heng was a businessman whose instincts for weighing pros and cons were practically engraved in his bones.

During the Baby Cup, he realized that although his son Chi Chang didn't end up winning first place, the act of conceding the match at the end had earned widespread praise from netizens, who called him a loyal and honorable trainer.

Though the outcome wasn't exactly what they'd hoped for, the public perception turned out positive, which made Chi Heng feel a lot better about it.

Moreover, Lin Feng's generous help during the Baby Cup, combined with his suspected status as a high-level breeder or above, completely changed Chi Heng's opinion of him.

This young man, he decided, was someone to be treated kindly, never to be antagonized.

That was precisely why Chi Heng came in person this time to help Lin Feng choose a Pokémon egg.

"Thanks for your trouble," said Lin Feng.

Though his initial impression of this father wasn't particularly good, Lin Feng knew better than to rebuff someone being polite.

He followed Chi Heng into the supermarket. After winding through several aisles, they finally arrived at a storeroom guarded by two enforcement officers and two imposing Growlithe.

Once they'd shown their ID, the two men were allowed inside.

Bright lights illuminated rows upon rows of glass display cases, each holding Pokémon eggs of various kinds.

Staff in white coats moved among the eggs, checking their conditions from time to time.

"This way. These are the starter Pokémon eggs," said Chi Heng, leading Lin Feng toward a display of about a dozen eggs.

Each egg had a label with detailed information:

Species: Charmander

Mother: A six-year-old Charizard of Gym-level strength

Potential Inherited Moves: Bite, Dragon Tail

Species: Bulbasaur

Mother: A seven-year-old Venusaur of Gym-level strength

Potential Inherited Moves: Ingrain

And so on.

There were Bulbasaurs, Chikoritas, Froakies, Chespins...

Most were starter Pokémon from the Kanto, Johto, and Kalos regions.

But Lin Feng scanned the selection with a faint trace of disappointment.

He didn't see the Pokémon he truly wanted.

What he wanted was a Psychic-type Pokémon!

"I thought Wangwang Supermarket doesn't sell Pokémon directly. What's the story behind all these eggs?" Lin Feng asked, curiosity piqued as his eyes drifted over the other Pokémon eggs Caterpie, Weedle, Marill, Oddish, Swinub, and many more.

In the Donghua League, thanks to solid international trade relations, it wasn't particularly unusual to find Pokémon from other regions appearing there.

Chi Heng grinned. "Ah, those? Our headquarters has been running a Pokémon Egg Mystery Guessing event that's been quite successful. Now we're planning to roll it out in all branches across the League. It's a way to give less affluent trainers a chance to obtain rare Pokémon and make some good connections along the way."

"So we need a much larger stock of Pokémon eggs," he explained.

Lin Feng nodded, sweeping his gaze over all the eggs again. But the flicker of disappointment returned to his face.

There wasn't a single Psychic-type egg...

Unable to resist asking, he said, "Don't you have any Psychic-types? Like Ralts, Mime Jr., or Espurr?"

"Psychic-types?" Chi Heng blinked, then gave a rather embarrassed smile. "Psychic Pokémon are usually quite rare. You'd probably have to go to the headquarters' Mystery Egg event to find one."

"I see..."

Lin Feng nodded thoughtfully. He was still studying the starter eggs when a sudden, startled voice cut through the room.

"Oh no..."
