Chapter 39: An Ordinary Person’s Life

Looking at the table piled high with delicious dishes, Mewtwo couldn't help swallowing a mouthful of saliva.

It all looked incredibly appetizing.

"Come on," Lin Feng said, serving Snivy and Pidgeotto each their own portion of energy cubes. Then he walked over to the fridge and pulled out a large bottle of chilled Peach Berry Juice that he'd prepared earlier.

He poured a glass each for Snivy, Mewtwo, and himself.

Snivy ate calmly, occasionally taking delicate sips of juice.

Pidgeotto, on the other hand, seemed a bit awkward at first. But in the end, it couldn't resist the lure of delicious food and began eating heartily.

Mewtwo sat in silence for a moment, then, prompted by Lin Feng's gesture, took a seat across the table and awkwardly mimicked Lin Feng's movements, picking up some meat with chopsticks and eating it.

[Congratulations, Host! Mewtwo's happiness has increased from 10% to 30%. Reward: One bag of premium Golden Fertilizer and one slightly bent spoon.]

Then, as if unable to help itself, Mewtwo picked up its glass of Peach Berry Juice and drank it.

That evening, after washing up the dishes, Lin Feng made up a bed for Mewtwo and then began producing more energy cubes.

At dawn the next day…

A small crowd was already gathered outside, waiting. Lin Feng carried out all the energy cubes he'd prepared and got ready to display them on the counter.

Mewtwo, who was also up early, saw the scene and immediately used its psychic power to lift all the energy cubes into the air at once, hovering them neatly in place while watching Lin Feng in silence.

"Your psychic power is really incredible. You can precisely control so many energy cubes all at once," Lin Feng said with a laugh. He then directed Mewtwo to move the cubes into their proper places on the shelves.

If Lin Feng and Snivy had tried to do all that by hand, it would have taken at least half an hour.

But with Mewtwo's psychic powers, the task was finished in ten seconds flat.

Seeing the display stocked with twice as many energy cubes as yesterday, Lin Feng nodded in satisfaction. He felt confident that the breeding house would make it through another busy day.

Just then, the door to the small breeding shop swung open.

Qin Shu, looking energetic and bright-eyed, was yelling from the doorway.

"Make way, everyone! Please move aside! Form a line, no pushing! Whoa, why are there so many people…?"

Once the doors were fully open, the sight outside genuinely surprised Lin Feng.

By all logic, business should have peaked on the first day and then gradually tapered off.

So the number of people visiting the breeding house should have been highest yesterday, with fewer customers today.

Yet now…

Lin Feng stared blankly at the scene outside, where the crowd had somehow doubled compared to yesterday.

Many of the faces were familiar regulars who'd already visited the day before.

Despite this technically being the "second day of the hype," the number of people waiting at dawn was twice as large as yesterday's crowd.

"Brothers, this is the shop I was talking about the one that made me see the sun at four thirty in the morning!"

Luan Ming, who had been there yesterday, was now back again, this time brandishing a selfie stick as he live-streamed.

He barely finished his sentence before shouting eagerly, "Boss! Boss! I want three packs of Stamina Energy Cubes!"

"Coming right up!"

Qin Shu grabbed a plastic bag and was about to start scooping out energy cubes from the labeled bins when Lin Feng stopped her and pointed toward the counter at the entrance.

"That's your station. Just weigh and check how many cubes each customer buys, and collect the payment. That's it."

Qin Shu blinked. "Huh?"

Was it really that simple?

Lin Feng nodded firmly.

Most of the customers here today had come because they'd seen the "Baby Cup" videos. They all knew Lin Feng was the owner of the neighborhood breeding house.

Once he gave the word, everyone started scooping cubes into their own bags. Even though there were noticeably more cubes on display today, it quickly turned into a free-for-all where only the fastest got what they wanted.

Qin Shu pursed her lips, feeling as though the money she was handling was somehow burning her hands.

But as she watched the line snaking longer and longer, with each customer paying thousands of yuan, her mind went completely blank.

So much…

So much money…

Some people were even buying the fruits and vegetables stacked in the corner, which were priced at dozens of yuan per kilogram.

The sensation of "burning money" quickly flipped in her head to:

"Is… is making money really this easy?"

Qin Shu knew the truth, though.

Money was never that easy to earn.

At least, not in Wutong Town.

Their town sat on the edge of a formerly restricted wilderness zone. Few Trainers ever ventured there.

Moreover, Wutong Town didn't have a Pokémon Center, its transportation was inconvenient, and it was at least a half-hour's drive from the nearest city.

All of this meant nobody came through here anymore.

Most of the adults in town went off to work in other places. Any kids who managed to get into a Pokémon University and become Trainers rarely came back afterward.

When she was a child, back when Uncle Lin and Aunt Ye were still around, the town used to be a bit livelier.

She still remembered how Uncle Lin's energy cubes were incredibly popular. Every day, Trainers from the city would come all the way out to buy his cubes.

Back then, her mother was even able to run a small Pokémon medical station in the town.

Any Trainers who got injured out in the wilderness would come there to heal and rest, so life was decent.

But after Uncle Lin and Aunt Ye disappeared, that little slice of prosperity vanished too…

The town grew quieter and emptier with each passing day.

Ultimately, it all came down to one simple fact: this place was just too poor.

Could Brother Feng really bring prosperity back to this little town?

A hopeful thought bloomed in Qin Shu's mind as she worked.

Watching Qin Shu, who had now seamlessly "integrated" into her new role, Lin Feng nodded approvingly. Then he led Mewtwo out for a walk through the plantation.

The watermelon vines were already sprouting, some stretching over a meter long.

At this pace, it looked like they'd be harvesting watermelons in five or six days.

The grass he'd cut yesterday had already regrown to about a third of its original height.

It made Lin Feng consider raising a few Miltank or Gogoat, so he could collect fresh milk and explore more ways to maximize the cooking effects of his Divine-level Breeder recipes.

Hmm, he'd have to find time to contact some livestock farmers in Huaqiao Village.

And he'd definitely need to expand the breeding house a bit more…

All these thoughts flashed through Lin Feng's mind in rapid succession.

"So this is what an ordinary life is like?"

Beside him, Mewtwo suddenly asked.

"It's only part of it, right? There's a lot more for you to experience beyond just this part, isn't there?"

Lin Feng lifted his head, glancing out toward the pine tree where Pidgeotto was still dutifully keeping watch over the surroundings.

He turned to Mewtwo and said, "Want to go out for a walk? See what ordinary people are doing at this time of day?"
