"Do you still remember where you found it?"
Yun Yibai hadn't even answered the first question before Yang Wudi fired off a second.
As he spoke, Yang Wudi couldn't control his hands, and Yun Yibai was being shaken back and forth with his motion.
"Clan Leader Yang—please, calm down!"
It wasn't surprising that Yang Wudi was this worked up. After all, for anyone knowledgeable about herbs and medicine, a celestial-grade spiritual treasure (tiancai dibao) was a rare and priceless gift from the heavens. If he had the chance to acquire even one, it might allow him to break through the dark ceiling over the Yang clan and glimpse the realm of a Titled Douluo.
As Yang Wudi shook him, Yun Yibai had already come up with a fabricated explanation in his mind.
"It was a plant that looked like…"
"…" (He trailed off deliberately.)
"Hm… that sounds a bit like a Grade Nine Purple Ganoderma," Yang Wudi muttered to himself.
Yun Yibai was a master of conversation. He said just enough to stir Yang Wudi's curiosity, but withheld just enough to keep him guessing.
"Young man, can you describe the plant in more detail? Where exactly did you find it?" Yang Wudi pressed on, unwilling to give up.
"Clan Leader Yang, this was seven or eight years ago. I stumbled across it purely by chance. As for the location, it was somewhere inside the Thunderclap Gorge, within the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's territory. But I don't remember the exact spot."
"In that case, I have an ancient alchemy book here. Come with me…"
Yun Yibai had successfully hooked Yang Wudi with the mention of a celestial herb. Even though everything he was saying was made up, such treasures did exist — like those found in the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.
Even Chrysanthemum Douluo, Yue Guan, once abandoned a mission from Bibi Dong just because a few people had consumed such rare herbs.
And Yang Wudi himself had once set aside long-standing grudges after obtaining a Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng, joining a sect he previously had no loyalty to.
In today's world, anyone who knows the value of these herbs cannot resist their temptation. Whether it was Yang Wudi or Yue Guan, even Titled Douluos were not immune.
"Cough cough cough!"
Though Dugu Bo couldn't follow every word in the fast-paced conversation, he understood one thing very clearly — they were talking about a medicinal herb so powerful, even a Spirit Douluo would covet it. And that might explain Yun Yibai's extraordinary progress.
As someone also versed in medicine, Dugu Bo realized — that kind of herb, he had once eaten it too. It had even helped suppress the poison that plagued his body.
Dugu Bo's sudden coughing brought Yang Wudi back to his senses. Yang Wudi knew he'd let his emotions get the better of him.
"Sort that out after the sparring match," Dugu Bo said calmly.
"Apologies, Your Grace — I let my excitement cloud my judgment."
"No matter," Dugu Bo waved it off. "This old man dabbles in medicine too. If something involves poison or rare herbs, naturally I'd be interested."
"Let's continue." Dugu Bo gestured to Yun Yibai with his eyes.
"Clan Leader Yang, this is Senior Dugu's granddaughter and also my girlfriend — Dugu Yan."
Dugu Bo knew his granddaughter's talent didn't quite match Yun Yibai's or Oscar's, but he also didn't want her to appear weak in front of the Yang clan. That's why he signaled Yun Yibai to introduce her — and Yun Yibai instantly understood. After all, he'd planned to do so anyway.
A titled Douluo's granddaughter, and his girlfriend — that would surely draw more attention from Yang Wudi.
With graceful steps, Dugu Yan walked over to Yun Yibai's side and politely addressed the clan leader:
"Greetings, Clan Leader Yang. I am Dugu Yan, sixteen years old. Martial Soul: Jade Scaled Serpent. Rank 39 Spirit Elder."
"Excellent, excellent," Yang Wudi praised sincerely.
"To have such an outstanding granddaughter, Your Grace, your legacy is well-secured."
A sixteen-year-old at rank 39 was indeed impressive. He didn't hold back on his praise.
"Hahahaha!"
Dugu Bo burst into laughter — any compliment toward his granddaughter immediately put him in a good mood.
Next up, Oscar stepped forward.
"This junior, Oscar, greets Clan Leader Yang!"
After Dugu Yan introduced herself, Oscar stayed back quietly. Now he followed up smoothly.
After taking a deep breath, Oscar continued:
"Martial Soul: Food God. Innate full spirit power. Twelve years old. Rank 32 Tool Spirit Elder — Food-type."
Yang Wudi hadn't paid Oscar much attention at first. But the moment he heard "food-type with innate full spirit power", his expression changed dramatically — even more shocked than when he heard Yun Yibai's level.
"Food-type with innate full spirit power?!"
"Is this a first in all of Douluo Continent?"
"There might've been one before, but nothing's been recorded. This boy is the first confirmed case I've ever heard of," some of the Yang clan's Soul Saints exclaimed.
They had lived long lives, yet none of them had ever seen a food-type Spirit Master born with maximum innate power.
But Yang Wudi thought deeper than the others. After a pause, he furrowed his brow slightly and asked Oscar:
"When you were flying earlier, those soul energy wings on your back — were they part of your spirit ability?"
Oscar didn't expect that to be the question.
"Senior, you have a sharp eye. Yes — that was indeed my third spirit skill. It's called 'Berserk Flying Fresh Mushroom', derived from a thousand-year-old Green Demon Bird. The effect grants flight at the bird's speed for three minutes, and it also boosts attack power."
Hearing that, Yang Wudi's curiosity toward Oscar's abilities grew.
"What about your other two spirit abilities?" he asked.
Oscar proceeded to explain his first and second spirit skills as well.
"Would you let me try them?" Yang Wudi asked.
"Of course!"
Watching the scene, Yun Yibai's eyes lit up with satisfaction. His plan for bringing Oscar here was already halfway successful.
"First Spirit Skill: Cute and Fragrant Tofu!"
"Second Spirit Skill: Beautiful Youthful Garlic Clove!"
"Third Spirit Skill: Green Winged Flying True Mushroom!"
Oscar's three spirit rings lit up in succession. As he chanted the soul incantations, a cube of tofu, a clove of garlic, and a mushroom appeared in his hands.
The tofu looked soft and tender — but the pungent odor it released made several people in the hall instinctively frown.
Oscar just stood there awkwardly. His spirit skills were like this. What could he do?
Yang Wudi, however, was a seasoned warrior. Unfazed, he picked up the smelly tofu without changing expression.
He popped it into his mouth — it melted instantly, soul energy flowing into his body.
One or two seconds later, he picked up the garlic clove and ate that as well.
Without hesitation, he then ate the mushroom. Immediately, a pair of translucent green wings spread from Yang Wudi's back.
Compared to the wings Yun Yibai and the others had shown before, these were even more solid and defined.
"Good. Very good," Yang Wudi's eyes lit up.
"Your spirit abilities are truly exceptional," he said to Oscar.
"Among support-type Spirit Masters, very few can boost a team's strength this directly and efficiently."
His tone carried genuine admiration. As a veteran, he knew all too well how important a good support-type Spirit Master was in battle.
