Chapter 2: Dream Echoes

Part I – The First Dream Thread

Kael's breath hitched the moment the world around him ceased to obey logic.

He wasn't asleep at least, not in the way mortals understood slumber. His body lay still in the Hollow Spire Clan's Initiate Quarter, wrapped in the silence of night. But his mind drifted elsewhere, pulled by something ancient and coiled—the first seal had cracked, and in doing so, had torn open a door.

The sky above him pulsed black and red. Oceans hung upside down. Beneath his feet, a shifting mirror reflected not his face, but twelve different reflections, all with his eyes—only, they weren't his anymore.

A masked figure stood at the center of this inverted plane. Their voice was silk layered in static.

> "Welcome to the Oculith's Dreamscape. Where Sightbearers meet echoes of what they might become."

Kael's mouth opened, but no sound came.

> "You've seen the first thread. You've touched the fracture. But what do you remember of yourself now?"

A chill flooded his bones. Memories began to flicker—his brother's face… his name…

Gone.

He fell to his knees as the sky shattered into fragments. A whisper slithered across the falling stars.

> "One memory. One step forward."

Part II – Blood in the West

Miles away, in the Crimson Veil, Nysera Vael stood barefoot in a ritual circle formed from sharpened bone. Twelve elders watched in silent reverence. Her left palm bled into a blood-rune chalice, carved from an ancient vampire's skull.

> "The rite of the first ring begins," spoke Elder Vael, her grandmother and Matriarch.

Nysera's Oculith burned to life.

A thousand bloodlines sang through her veins.

The red sigil before her ignited with searing flame as her eye opened wide, glowing crimson.

[ Seal I Unlocked – Crimson Grasp ]

🔹 Ability 1: Blood Clone – Creates a short-lived duplicate formed from previous combat actions.

🔹 Ability 2: Pain Conversion – Converts self-inflicted wounds into temporary strength enhancements.

She didn't scream.

But her veins pulsed black for a moment. Her vision flickered.

A shadow formed behind her—her clone—grinning wider than her own mouth could.

> "Two paths stir," Elder Vael whispered. "The eyes of fate are blinking open."

Part III – The Realm Ladder

Kael snapped awake, gasping. Cold sweat drenched his robes. Beside him, the Ancestor Flame burned low. A system prompt flared before his vision.

[ Oculith Detected] === [ Phase I Activated ]

[ Thread Activity ] === [ 42% ]

[ Seal I : Fracture Mirror ] === [ Active ]

[ Phantom Recall ] === [ Rewind 10 seconds of memory ]

[ Reflective Disarm ] === [ Copy opponent's last move at 50% effectiveness ]

[ Side Effect Triggered ] === [ Memory Drift Initiated. A childhood song forgotten. ]

He gritted his teeth.

Later that day, all Initiates gathered at the central amphitheater. Elder Rho stood beneath a pillar wrapped in burning inscriptions. His face was carved from time hard, unmoved by progress or pain.

"You now bear Oculiths. But you do not yet understand them. So listen well."

He waved his hand. A layered glyph appeared in the air—concentric circles weaving inward.

The Three Great Realms of Cultivation:

∆ Low Realm (The Root):

Mortal Seed – Raw awareness begins.

Ember Vein – Life force merges with energy threads.

Spirit Pulse – Conscious projection enters energy field.

Ascendant Flame – Minor law manifestation.

Thread Initiate – Full realm resonance.

> "Most die here. Most never reach the fifth stage. Two seals only. Try for more, and the Realm will shatter you."

∆ Middle Realm (The Expansion):

Star Vein – Soul leaves body during combat.

Soul Forge – Rule anchoring begins.

Crowned Origin – Will influences reality.

Celestial Flow – Can draw from higher planes.

Lawstepper – Birth of domain.

∆ High Realm (The Cosmos):

World Binder – Local reality shaping.

Realm Heart – Plane governance.

Cosmic Apex – Transcends physicality.

Origin Devourer – Consumes laws.

Eye of Worlds – Creates parallel existence.

Kael swallowed hard.

"You have two paths," Rho said. "Learn to anchor power. Or be destroyed by it."

"To anchor your first seal, you must train the body and mind. Martial forms. Ritual discipline. Combat law. This is not a game. It is war, waged against the soul's limits."

Part IV – Threads of the Self

Kael stood in the Threadring Dojo, facing Instructor Vann.

"Threadstep Form. Show me," Vann barked.

Kael nodded and moved—his steps stuttering at first. He summoned Phantom Recall, rewound, tried again.

Smoother. Sharper. But imperfect.

Vann frowned.

"You're cheating."

Kael didn't deny it.

He trained well into dusk. Muscles screaming. Eyes stinging.

Then it happened—he improvised. A sudden twist, a palm reversal, breath aligned with footfall. Ash Spiral Form was born.

> [New Martial Form Created: Ash Spiral Form – Incomplete Variant]

A prompt flickered:

> [ Memory Lost: Your first mentor's final words.]

He slumped to the ground, breathing ragged.

"Power taken without cost is power borrowed. And all debts are due."

Part V – The Crimson Link

Nysera dreamed again.

But this time, it was shared.

She stood in a mirrored desert, red sand stretching to the void. Kael was there, back turned, eyes glowing faintly.

They fought side by side—mirror beasts rising from the dunes. Each time they fell, Kael rewound time. Nysera slashed with doubled pain.

Then a voice between them.

> "Twelve Sightbearers will shape the war. One thread binds all."

Their seals hummed in harmony. But the desert cracked—and Kael was pulled away.

She awoke bleeding from the nose, her clone flickering beside her.

> "We will meet in the next seal," she whispered.\n

Part VI – Other Eyes Awaken

Far from both of them, in the Frost Echo Wastes, another stirred.

A child whose tears turned to blades.

A flame whispering: "Sightbearer Class: Glacial Maw. Seal I: Memory Consumption."

A smile too wide. A voice too old.

> "More are waking. Good. We need more echoes to kill."
