A taste of pain

Lucien

I walk towards my office slowly, my head in a haze. Her words keep repeating themselves at the times I do not want it to pop up.

Still, they bubble up again. Then it hits hard. Really hard.

I push back the rage that tries bubbling up in my throat each time I remember her words. Of course, she was entitled to every word she said, but..

My head clicks as soon as I stop in front of my office. Her scent vaguely fills the air, wrapping itself around me like a cat purring for attention. Cinnamon and clove—just like her fiery yet soft person. It's perfect.

I turn my head to the cubicle a little far off from my office. Did she really quit? Or was it in a fit of rage she said that?

A part of me really wants to believe it's the latter, but then..

I sigh, pushing the door open, walking slowly to my seat.

She better be kidding. I'm not allowing her to quit just like that.

I sit down ready for work, but the back of my head keeps bugging me.

Ugh. She is a feary, why is she affecting me so much?

Right. She is my mate.

What a wonderful gift from the moon goddess. Tsk.

I close my eyes, trying to concentrate on work, but nothing makes sense anymore, her absence just fills the room, ironic isn't it?

Trying to raise my hopes a little, I reach for the telephone on the desk.

Ring once. Twice. Thrice. No answer.

"Yup, she really did quit," I put it down.

"Wow, the nerve of the little feary. She really quit, just like that."

I clench my jaw, trying so hard to push it down. Rage? Probably.. hurt?

"No way. It's none of my business. It's not as if I like her anyway," I turn on my laptop, "It's better she's away from me."

Bring her back. Bring her back.

"Shut up, Lucas," I snarl at him, gripping the edge of my desk, "We do not need her," I groan.

This time, the scent of cinnamon and clove wraps around my nose, sweetly caressing my face.

My wolf howls, and growls, snarling and snapping, but I just stay calm. He's gone mad, good thing I'm still sane.

I wave the air around my nose, as if that would magically transport the scent elsewhere, unfortunately not.

We need her curled around our legs. We should be in her right now!

My eyes twinkle, and my cheeks flush at the thought of what Lucas just said.

"You're crazy," I whisper, pushing myself away from my desk, "I can't with you," my voice drops to a husky groan.

My thoughts drift back to her. The way she felt around me, the way her legs instantly wrapped around mine, clenching around them.. her cheeks filling my hands-

"This isn't right," I whisper, "Damn, you're going mad," I quickly stand up.

A tap on the door jolts me back to the present. It's my best friend and PA, Kael.

I roll my eyes, "What do you want?"

He pushes the door open, a smug smile sitting proudly on his face.

"I just thought I'd come check up on you. You've been here for the past thirty minutes but haven't called me for anything? You okay? Are they no clients today?"

I blink, did he say thirty minutes?

 "Yes.. I've just been distracted."

Kael grimaces, "What the heck, man? You're having an erection at work? What if someone else walks in?" He snorts.

I pause, my eyes going wide with panic, and my eyes drop to my pants.

 Oh no, oh damn it!

"Ugh, what's wrong with you?" He palms his head.

I just blink at him in response, my head drifting back to Lucas' earlier words.

"Go away, this isn't something to make a joke off," I hiss, swirling around to go sit at my desk.

"You already look like one," he bursts out laughing, coming closer to my desk.

I shoot him one glare, and he goes quiet, "Better."

"What's making you all hard in the morning? Oh.. is that the reason you didn't call me so you could..." He gives me a knowing smug smile, and I hiss again.

"You're so stupid, I still don't know how you're my best friend," I groan silently.

"Come on, tell me," he drawls.

"It's that feary girl. She quit."

He chuckles, his eyes gleaming with mischief, "What feary girl?"

I hold my head, grimacing, "I know for sure you are.."

"You can't blame me," he shrugs, "I know a lot of 'em. I usually see some slutty ones at the bar," he taps his fingers on the table.

"What the heck, bro?" I mutter, my brows arching as a wave of disgust twists my stomach into a tight knot. Such a reckless young man.

His smug smile widens into a grin, "Come on, you know it's true."

I fall back into my chair, my chest tightening, "The little one who had caused a scene here a few days ago."

"Oh, that girl? What happened to her?"

"She quit," I finally look at him.

There is a moment of silence, as he takes some seconds to process what I just said.

"Uhh, so her quitting is the reason you're hard?"

I dig my teeth into my lower lip, hoping not to flip out on the dummy I call a best friend.

Well, that's why he's my best friend. Stupid, but he's a really cool guy.

"No Kael. Didn't I mention she was my mate earlier?"

His eyes widen, as his jaw follows, "What? How long has this been going on?" He gasps.

"It's a really long story bud," I hold my face, "But right now, I need to find that girl."

"Well, I'm not helping," he crosses his arm across his chest, his brows knotted in a frown.

"Okay, I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you," I place my hands on the desk.

"Please, I know you're the only one who can help me," I thin my lips.

After what seems like an eternity, he finally agrees, "But that means you're going to do whatever I say, for the next few weeks," his grin widens again.

"I hate you," I scoff, sitting back in my chair.

"What's her name?" He gets to his feet.

 "Lyanna Sanders," I reply.

"Oh, consider it done. You'll get a reply in the next three days," he shoves his hands into his pockets, then walks out.

That's right, little faery I'm coming for you.
