Scene 1 — A Name Among Ashes
Su Ruyan knelt in the ruins of a forgotten temple at the edge of the Ghostlight Marsh. She wore plain robes. Her face bore no makeup. Her hands were scarred from years of survival — not cultivation.
Before her, a fading spirit tablet rested in the dirt.
It bore the name:
Xu Tianheng
"He Who Dared to Break the Pact"
She didn't cry.
Not anymore.
Instead, she whispered:
"You said we'd defy them together. You said we'd protect the child."
She touched her chest, where a faint brand glowed — a phoenix curled into the shape of a tear.
"But you died, didn't you? Or so I thought."
Her voice grew harder.
"And now… they say Lin Xun walks the path again."
"But is it truly you, Tianheng… or just a shadow of what we once were?"
Scene 2 — The Envoy from the Southern Court
That same day, a golden carriage bearing the seal of the Southern Cloud Sect Alliance arrived at Dustwind's main gates.
From it stepped a single figure.
Veiled. Calm. With eyes like moonlight and a voice like the echo of memory.
Su Ruyan.
Mistwalker Xu's breath caught the moment he saw her. He bowed stiffly, suspicion clear on his face.
"You are… here as what, exactly?"
She lowered her veil and offered a scroll.
"Envoy. Observer. And, if necessary, Executioner."
"The Heaven Council believes Lin Xun's survival may have triggered a destabilization of the Realm Balance."
"They want answers. Or a corpse."
She smiled without warmth.
"I'd rather it be the first."
Scene 3 — A Battle of Monsters
Lin Xun, unaware of her arrival, was already causing tremors in the inner sect.
After his recovery, three core disciples challenged him on the Storm Altar, hoping to claim his position as front-runner for the upcoming Sect Ascension Trials.
Their mistake.
Lin Xun stood still as the first opponent, wielding an enchanted flame saber, struck.
He didn't dodge.
He let the blow land — and then devoured the flame.
The second, a spear user with lightning runes, aimed for his throat.
Lin Xun caught the spear with one hand… and shattered it with spiritual pressure alone.
The third never attacked. She simply collapsed under his killing intent.
From the audience, Su Ruyan watched with veiled terror.
"That's not how you fought, Tianheng," she thought. "This is... not you."
When Lin Xun finally turned his gaze on her — he paused.
Something flickered.
"You…" he whispered. "Why do you feel… familiar?"
But she turned away.
"Because I buried you once," she thought. "And I might have to do it again."
Scene 4 — The Forbidden Council
That night, behind stone walls and concealed seals, a gathering of high elders from three sects convened.
Mistwalker Xu. Hai Chen. Two envoys from Heaven. One mortal warlord.
Topic: The Whispering Bell's toll.
"He's awakening something that should not awaken," one envoy hissed. "His soul remembers what the world has forgotten."
Hai Chen slammed the table.
"He is our disciple. Our burden. Our responsibility."
The Heaven envoy leaned forward.
"And when the sky splits open, and the Black Star returns, will you still claim him?"
No one answered.
Scene 5 — Alone Beneath the Ash Tree
That night, Lin Xun sat alone beneath the great ash tree overlooking Hollowfang Peak. The stars seemed further away than ever.
He sensed her approach.
"You watched me today," he said without turning.
Su Ruyan's voice trembled.
"I did."
"You fought like someone who's forgotten what it means to bleed for others."
He stood.
"Then remind me."
He turned. And for the first time in lifetimes… their eyes met.
"Have we met?" he asked.
"Not yet," she lied.
Then she added softly:
"But once, we dreamed the same dream."
She turned to leave.
"Don't make me wake up alone again.
