The Memory That Wasn’t

Scene 1 — The Descent

The shattered mirrors vanished, and Lin Xun descended a spiral staircase of floating stones. Each step echoed not in sound, but in emotion — sorrow, rage, guilt, awe — ancient impressions that whispered in foreign tongues.

Above him, the sky-trees retreated into mist.

Below him, a vast obsidian gate awaited, pulsing with runes that bore no language — only meaning.

When he touched it, the world dissolved.

And Trial Two began.

Scene 2 — Trial of Memory: The False Past

Lin Xun opened his eyes in a different world.

He was not Lin Xun.

He was Xu Tianheng, immortal general of the Heaven-Severing War.

He wore celestial armor. He held a halberd of cloudsteel. He stood atop a battlefield of corpses, gods and beasts alike.

"Is this… my past life?"

"Or someone else's?"

Voices called him "Lord Tianheng." But none felt familiar.

Then he saw her — a woman with silver hair and tears in her eyes.

"You promised," she said.

"You said we'd walk the mortal path together."

He didn't recognize her.

But his body did.

He dropped the halberd.

He fell to his knees.

And the memory shattered.

Scene 3 — The Sea of Forgotten Selves

Lin Xun fell into a sea of eyes — millions of them, all his, each from a different forgotten life.

A butcher in a ruined empire.

A monk who set fire to his own temple.

A child who watched the sky fall.

Each one tried to climb into him. To speak through his mouth. To possess him again.

A voice rang out:

"You are a tomb of lives you never lived."

"Do you want to know who you really are?"

Lin Xun clenched his fists.

"No."

He activated the Rootless Blade.

"I want to know who I'm choosing to become."

With one swing, he severed the memories — not in hate, but in clarity.

The sea calmed.

He emerged soaked, shaking… but whole.

Scene 4 — The Revelation

In the heart of the Grave, Lin Xun found a stone basin. Within floated a shard of black crystal — older than the Heavens.

When he touched it, it showed a vision:

A divine war before time.

Seven beings in robes of starlight, carving the laws of reality.

One broke ranks — carving the Heaven-Sundered Sutra, a code of rebellion.

That one bore Lin Xun's face.

But his eyes were hollow. Machine-like. Divine.

"That is not me," Lin Xun said aloud.

"Not anymore."

The crystal crumbled.

The gate opened.

He had passed Trial Two.

Scene 5 — Ambush at the Third Gate

But peace did not await him.

As Lin Xun stepped forward, five figures emerged from the mists of the Grave — cloaked in bone and ash.

The Graveseal Cult had arrived.

Leading them was a figure who bowed mockingly.

"Lin Xun. Seed of Heaven-Sundering. Puppet of forgotten gods."

"By Mother Ash's decree, your story ends here."

Lin Xun raised his Rootless Blade, still trembling from memory-pain.

"You're welcome to try."

The third trial would have to wait.

The first real battle against the cult… had just begun.
