"Your Eminence, what are we now going to say to the people? They are asking why the king brought back his rejected mortal mate with him to the Red Palace. And we, your faithful subjects with you in court, are also eager to know why and what we should make of this, Your Eminence."
His eyes observed each and every one of them above the veil covering his face. His dark gloved hands clasped together before him as he tried to mirror each and every one of their thoughts in the golden courtroom of kings. The wind blew the large curtains above their heads as he remained seated high enough like a god that watches everything.
"Are you interested, Your Majesty, in acknowledging her as your fated mate now and we will be having a queen soon from you?"
Tamara's sharp claws dug deeply into a part of her skin where it would surely hurt and draw blood. She dared not say anything when these powerful demons were talking in court. Her only business for being here was because she promised to be by his side at all times, and that meant following him to court and sitting on golden chairs.
She was still, and no matter how many jewels and honorable clothes the demon king had decided to adorn her with, or the mansions and private castles he gave her under her own name—she would forever be seen as one of the demon king's prostitutes rather than the woman he was most interested in at the moment.
She fought herself from breaking down madly ever since the whole Red Palace went bizarre with the rumor—now confirmed true by the demon king—of him going out in the middle of the night for the purpose of dragging back his mate with him to the Red Palace.
That single action might not mean anything to most demons here and out there—but the king's thoughts and decisions from now on could determine how her whole life would be played out. He might never look at her the same way now that he is giving mixed signals that he is interested and not interested in his mate all in less than five nights. He might have her taken back to the harem or worse, take back every single diamond he gave her to give to his rightful mate.
Her red eyes began to cloud with tears as the urge to start marking her territory burned so hot within her system. She hated this so much and wanted him to clarify himself now before she decided to go crazy.
"Some people even speculated you wanted her to be in one of the harems and others claim they saw you put her in one of the castle dungeons…"
All this while, the demon king had been holding them in tense suspense by his silence. The crazed smirk that overtook his dark lips underneath that veil was enough to interest every demon and official in the room.
His dear Eve wrapped from head to toe in chains…begging for his mercy while she suffered and wilted away down there like an abandoned flower. There would be no one that would come to save her from him this time.
Not Adam or God.
That thought pleased him greatly, but the smile wavered at the thought of her being so far away and hidden from his sight. How was he going to keep a close eye on her if she was being locked far away and underneath his feet? How was he going to know if her heart was beating for someone else and she was planning to leave him because her heart said so and 'it was the fucking right thing to do'?
The tension and deepening in aura could be eerily felt by everyone when his eyes darken more at the thought of her being silly against the arms of someone else. Someone she felt was more righteous or made just for her.
The thought of someone laying even the smallest finger on her body.
Everyone tightened up in their seats when a nearby pillar suddenly began to crack underneath the weight of his dark energy seeping through in response to his mood.
He hated everything. Every single shit she pulled with him in that darn garden he always wandered into because of her. Because he not only wanted her body or soul…he wanted her heart as well, and he was willing to do everything to make sure the ground she walked on was divine and pure. The only goddess he ever wanted to know and give immortal life.
And he got rewarded greatly for choosing her to be his first and only love.
Bounding her to rot away in chains seemed like a great idea and a starter for his plans on drawing out his revenge from every part of her being, but for some reasons…he disciplined himself against it.
"I still stand on the other side of the fence that rejects her, and she can never be my queen. Not now or even in a million years to come. She is no longer worthy of my benevolent nature."
Tamara was the first to turn her head to him in relief that he was not planning on mating with her and one day putting her crown on a mortal and stranger's head. As if following her thoughts, the king's eyes locked on her and it softened a bit to see that his object of revenge might have frightened her a bit or stirred up something he never wanted it to bother her a bit.
"I still have my queen beside me, and why would I need another?" he said, putting her more in a relaxed spot. Tears of relief ran down her cheeks as she stared back at him with both love, gratitude, and a semblance of adoration for the demon king.
The demon king looked away to turn to his other restless subjects and rulers of his kingdom.
"She's just one pretty creature I want to destroy and have fun with for a while. No need to feel so bothered by her. It is a personal business I wish to take care of without any of you wanting to know why or what," the demon king dismissed, leaning more on the sides of his throne to stare down at his feet for a while. "It's nothing too serious."
He said out loud as a way to try and convince himself that bringing her back and not wanting to just forget everything that happened between them in the garden and letting go of all the hurt, drama, and buried pains and desires in disguise of revenge was indeed nothing.
It was nothing too serious.
He just wanted revenge from her darned reincarnation and that's all.
For her to feel every one of his pains and remind her of how she hurt him because of what Adam said and her desires to be acceptable to her Maker. It was all greater than the love she claimed she had for him—that is, even if there was any love in her to start with in the first place.
"She will stay in the king's harem for a period of time, and I will entrust her welfare completely in Tamara's hands."
Everyone in court turned to Tamara, and Tamara didn't know how to feel about this. She would prefer that brat be in the general harem like she firstly grew up in than to be under the protection of the king's private harem.
It shouldn't really matter as long as she got to be in charge of her and keep her miles apart from her demon.
She rose to her feet, turned towards where the demon king was seated high before them all, and bowed in submission to his will.
"As you wish, My King."
