🌑 Ashlands Periphery – 01:24 AM
The wind carried no ash tonight. Only silence—and a tension so thick it seemed to seep into every breath they drew. They stood on the cusp of the unknown, where the earth cracked like old scars and the sky refused to heal.
Liana adjusted the strap on her shoulder rifle, scanning the dark with restless eyes. Solace stood beside her, arms crossed, her expression unreadable. Mason knelt beside a terminal salvaged from the ruins, fingers dancing across broken code.
Daniel paced.
He had barely slept since Reaper-Prime's signal. None of them had.
Liana's voice was low, but it carried through the stillness. "Any updates?"
Mason looked up. "The signal's not a broadcast. It's a tether."
"A what?" Solace asked.
"It's drawing something in. Or... syncing."
Daniel stopped pacing. "With what?"
"That's what we're about to find out."

🌀 Network Burrow – 02:08 AM
They descended into a place that hadn't existed on any map. A chasm carved not by nature or war—but by design. Beneath the Ashlands, beneath the ruins of Project Mirror, lay an ancient system of tunnels and conduit veins stretching into the unknown.
Liana led, Solace behind her. Mason carried the portable decryptor on his back. Daniel brought up the rear, his pulse rifle always half-raised.
The walls here weren't stone or metal. They pulsed.
"Organic tech," Mason muttered. "This is old. Pre-Reaper, maybe even Pre-Solace Initiative."
Solace brushed her hand along the wall. It shivered under her touch.
Liana frowned. "It's responding to you."
Solace looked away. "I don't want it to."
They pressed on.
---
🔥 Central Node – 02:43 AM
At the tunnel's heart, they found it.
A chamber the size of a cathedral. Walls made of black-glass circuitry and mirrored veins. At the center: a cradle.
Not a machine. Not quite.
A cocoon.
Suspended in it—alive, asleep, unchanged—was another Liana.
Her.
Again.
No scars. No battles.
Perfect.
Liana stepped forward, breath catching in her throat. "This can't be real."
"It's not a clone," Mason whispered. "She's... foundational. An imprint. The core model."
"The one everything else was built from," Daniel said. "Including you."
Liana backed away.
The cocoon pulsed, as if sensing her. Her.
"She's waking up," Solace said. "And she's not alone."
Alarms didn't sound. They didn't need to. The entire room became alert. Systems long-dormant began to stir.
"Something's coming," Mason warned.
Liana drew her weapon. "Then we fight."

⚔️ Engagement: Primeborn – 03:17 AM
It wasn't just Reapers this time.
They came like shadows unraveling—humanoid forms, draped in flowing armor, eyes glowing with pale fire. The Primeborn.
Mason cursed. "They're not machines."
"No," Solace whispered. "They're what came before. The architects of the Reapers."
Daniel fired first. One of the Primeborn staggered, but did not fall.
Then chaos.
A dance of fire and shadow. Liana moved like fury incarnate, every shot purposeful. Solace unleashed waves of kinetic force, her arms crackling with raw resonance. Mason maintained the barrier field, rerouting power through the decryptor.
Daniel fought with brutal precision.
But they were losing.
For every one Primeborn that fell, another rose.
"We need to wake her," Mason shouted. "The original Liana. She's connected to them. To the system."
"She'll kill us," Daniel snarled. "Or worse."
"Or save us," Liana said. "We don't have a choice."
They circled the cradle. Liana placed her hand against the surface.
It shattered.
---
🌬️ Awakening – 03:31 AM
The cocoon dissolved into dust, revealing a version of Liana untouched by time. She floated down, bare feet touching the floor like a dream.
Her eyes opened.
And every Primeborn froze.
"They listen to her," Solace breathed.
The new Liana looked around. "Where... am I?"
"You're in what's left," the Liana said. "Of everything."
"I remember the beginning," the original whispered. "But I was never meant to see the end."
The Primeborn knelt.
Mason approached. "You have control."
"No," she said. "I have understanding."
She touched the floor.
The chamber responded. Light surged up the walls. Outside, in the Ashlands, the earth trembled.
Reaper-Prime stirred.
---
🧠 Mindspace Convergence – 03:57 AM
Time fractured.
Liana—our Liana—was pulled into a mindspace, a shared neural plane where memory, emotion, and code became one. She stood face to face with the original.
"I don't want to become you," Liana said.
"You already did," her original self replied. "But you also changed. You grew. You broke what they built."
"What are you now?"
The original smiled. "Free. And that means I get to choose."
The mindspace cracked. The Primeborn shrieked.
---
💥 Climax – 04:15 AM
The chamber exploded in light.
The Primeborn turned on each other.
Reaper-Prime roared awake somewhere deeper.
The original Liana walked through the chaos untouched, her presence unraveling systems too old to name.
She turned to our Liana.
"Finish what I began."
Then she stepped into the light and vanished.
The chamber collapsed.
---
🌅 Ashlands Surface – 05:01 AM
They emerged half-blind, battered, blinking into dawn.
The sky was red. But clear.
Solace wiped blood from her mouth. "Is it over?"
Daniel checked his gear. "It's changed. Everything's changed."
Mason didn't speak. He simply looked at Liana.
She looked at the rising sun.
And whispered:
"No. Now it begins."
