Chapter 9: Twisted Sister Control
At noon, Miyano Makoto and Ichinose Honami finished their bento lunches in the classroom.
It's worth mentioning that Miyano Makoto had two bento boxes in front of him, one blue and one orange.
As for the source of the bento, it was, of course, handmade by Ichinose Honami in Miyano Makoto's dormitory that morning.
"I feel like there's no difference from before."
"Perhaps it's because we've already gotten used to this kind of life."
Ichinose Honami and Miyano Makoto maintained their usual conversation.
"It seems like the Student Council has something going on this afternoon.
Did Honami take the day off?"
"Of course!"
"I'm really looking forward to Student Council life with Makoto."
"Is that so?
Is it okay to miss classes?"
"I believe Makoto will help me."
"You really have a lot of confidence in me."
"Because in my eyes, Makoto is omnipotent, except for socializing."
"Give me a break.
Honami is enough for socializing."
Today's Class B classroom was a bit livelier than yesterday, with scattered people eating instant food bought from the convenience store.
Ichinose Honami and Miyano Makoto didn't deliberately lower their voices when whispering, which led most people to overhear their conversation.
"I'm never eating lunch in the classroom again."
This was the common thought of most people remaining in the classroom.
"Speaking of which, taking time off is really convenient.
As long as there's a valid reason, it seems like you can take as many days off as you want."
"Even so, Makoto still has to go to school properly and try to make his first friend."
"Do girls count?"
"Makoto is not being good."
Ichinose Honami gently pulled Miyano Makoto's ear, then lightly twisted it.
"Don't forget about Mom and Dad; they won't agree with your idea."
"I know.
My ear hurts a bit.
Can Honami let go now?"
"Eh, eh?
I clearly didn't use much strength.
Sorry, sorry."
Ichinose Honami quickly withdrew her hand, looking a bit flustered.
"I was just kidding.
Honami is really gentle."
"Honestly..."
Ichinose Honami pouted her cute little mouth.
The pleasant lunch time ended.
Miyano Makoto had requested leave from Chie Hoshinomiya Sensei last night, and not only did the teacher quickly approve his leave request, but she also enthusiastically invited him to her private office for a talk after school.
Although it didn't feel like a good thing, a homeroom teacher was not someone to easily offend, so Miyano Makoto readily agreed.
The status between teachers and students is inherently unequal.
But for now, Student Council matters were more important.
"You're here."
"I'm here."
"You shouldn't... never mind, have a seat."
Horikita Manabu almost blurted out something he shouldn't have, but he stopped himself and instead invited the other party to sit down.
"It's the second day of school, Miyano Makoto.
What are your thoughts on this school?"
"It's great!
The students get along very well, the cafeteria food is delicious, and my personal feelings have made great progress."
"While those are important, you should know that's not what I'm asking."
Horikita Manabu adjusted his glasses, his expression serious, his gaze sharp.
Seeing this, Miyano Makoto also put away his nonchalant attitude.
He knew the big moment was coming.
"Although I'd like to say what I just did, the existence of individual points is still too strange.
I'm afraid future school life won't be as calm as it is now."
"You're right."
Horikita Manabu nodded in agreement.
Due to school reasons, he couldn't say much, but this didn't prevent the other party from figuring it out on his own.
"If I'm not mistaken, the next thing will be class competition, right?
The ABCD four-class grading system also represents the quality of students from good to bad.
Next month, Class D should fall into hell."
Miyano Makoto spoke without hesitation.
This was all information he already knew from his previous life, and saying it now indeed startled the Student Council President in front of him.
"Your understanding of this school is truly... thorough."
Horikita Manabu thought for a moment and used the adjective "thorough."
"I imagine there will be some special exams, too, right?
If classes are only divided based on academic ability and athletic prowess, then students in the lower classes wouldn't even think about climbing up, and their individual talents wouldn't be utilized."
Miyano Makoto laid it all out, and Horikita Manabu was truly shocked this time.
"You are more outstanding than I imagined.
In that case, there's something I'd like to ask of you."
"What is it?"
Although he said that, Miyano Makoto had actually already guessed it.
"Haven't you already guessed?"
Horikita Manabu sighed softly.
"Miyabi Nagumo.
He is currently the Vice President of the Student Council and will soon be the person in power for the entire second-year grade."
"He has always wanted to turn this school into a true meritocracy, so stopping his ideas from being implemented is the task I'm entrusting to you."
"President Horikita, do you mean he has already dominated the entire grade in just one year?"
"While it hasn't reached that extent yet, I think it's only a matter of time."
"I understand.
However, compared to me, is President Horikita truly helpless in this matter?"
This was also something Miyano Makoto had been wondering about.
Horikita Manabu was the person Miyabi Nagumo had always wanted to challenge, so why couldn't Horikita Manabu do anything about Miyabi Nagumo?
"His abilities are undeniable, so I could only promote him to the position of Student Council Vice President."
"I see.
I understand.
Then I'll take care of this matter."
Miyano Makoto understood.
Horikita Manabu meant that he couldn't personally intervene in this matter and could only entrust it to someone else capable.
This person also had to be found among the first-years, as the third-years didn't have much time left at this school.
"It's a great help that you can understand.
By the way, where is that... Honami Ichinose who is always with you now?"
"President Horikita, you're quite a joker.
Isn't this precisely why you deliberately arranged for us to talk separately?
I think Honami should be talking with Tachibana Secretary right now."
"I thought so too.
My apologies."
"Then, what is the relationship between Horikita Suzune of Class D, first year, and you, President Horikita?"
Miyano Makoto asked the question the other party least wanted to hear.
"How do you know her?"
Horikita Manabu knew he couldn't deny it at this point.
Since the other party dared to ask, it meant he had some certainty.
"It was written on the bulletin board at the start of school.
I remembered it."
"That's truly an astonishing memory.
However, isn't it a bit arbitrary to assume a relationship between us just based on a name?"
"At the entrance ceremony, I saw you glance at her, and her reaction was also very strange."
Upon hearing this, Horikita Manabu sighed.
"What terrifying insight.
I thought I had controlled myself very well.
It's quite embarrassing that my younger sister was assigned to Class D."
"No, this school's class placement mechanism obviously has flaws.
While there's nothing wrong with it overall, there are significant issues in the details."
"My assignment to Class B is the strongest evidence."
Horikita Manabu stood up, his back always perfectly straight.
"She's not like you.
She misunderstood the relationship between arrogance and solitude.
She shouldn't be here."
"I think everyone should be given a chance, don't you?"
Miyano Makoto had no intention of letting him off so easily.
"Someone who dotes on his sister like President Horikita, if he could show a smile to his sister, it might have a miraculous effect."
"I have my own plans."
Horikita Manabu's voice clearly grew colder.
He made a move to leave the Student Council President's personal office.
"Your plan isn't to force your sister to drop out of school, is it?"
Horikita Manabu stopped at his words.
He and Miyano Makoto stood back to back like that.
"This is the best way for her."
"No, this is your self-proclaimed 'best way for her'.
Imposing your own ideas on a family member, is that President Horikita's way of life?"
"..."
"I'll slowly consider what you've said."
Horikita Manabu left.
