Chapter Twelve
Stanley's jaw was left hanging in shock as he stared at his father who looked as stern as ever then turned to look at Nifemi who evaded his gaze in clear guilt
He stared from his father to his wife, finding it hard to process the information he had just heard.
No, it was simply indigestible.
How was it possible t_that...
"so, you mean to tell me that you, Nifemi, are just like that... witch? "
"who are you calling witch? "baba shot him a mean glare which made him recoil in astonishment.
"Nifemi is not like that witch" he snapped but that didn't lessen Stanley's confusion.
"can you please explain better? "he said and the man nodded in approval.
"that is how you talk to an elder. Anyway, during the battle with the evil serpent, a lot of powerful people were lost. It was a battle harder than anyone could ever think of. The serpent seemed unbeatable so some of the warriors came together to go down with the serpent to restore peace and orderliness back to their world. By going down with him, it meant sacrificing their lives. Nifemi's father happened to be one of those volunteers. His wife, however couldn't stand the thought of living without her husband so she sacrificed her life trying to save him. It's kind of complicated but the crux of the matter is that they both didn't survive. The serpent was finally sealed but not without those many sacrifices. Before Nifemi's father passed away, he made the elders promise to remove Nifemi's power, erase her memories and turn her into a human. So there you have it, the true story of your wife's identity "baba explained in a measured tone.
"so Nifemi is not human? "Stanley asked, feeling incredulous.
"yes! "
"so I've been sleeping with not just one but two creatures! "
Baba shot him a warning glare while Nifemi winced from the painful jab of his words.
"Stanley, I wasn't aware"
"of course you weren't "he scoffed in distrust.
Then the thought struck him.
How did his father know all this?
It couldn't be...
"are you also not human?"he gaped in horror.
"does that mean I'm also not human? "
"will you stop talking nonsense? "the old man snapped at him.
"nonsense ?,you're saying I'm talking nonsense?. If this is not nonsense, then what is it?. I'd been sleeping with two women who aren't human and there's even a possibility that my father might not be human and I may also not be one as well. I'm about to go crazy right now and you're telling me I'm talking nonsense? "
"who do you think you're talking to?, have you forgotten I'm your father? "
"baba... "
"shut up and let me explain already. I'm very much a human. I only know about the supernatural coven because I've been there and that's where I got my clairvoyance power, you dimwit. Nifemi was entrusted to me after her memory got wiped out. Her powers, however, can't be destroyed without destroying the owner. It was sealed but now it has awoken on its own just yesterday and her memories were also resrored"
"why, baba? "Nifemi finally said a word.
"because THE BOOK prophesied the rise of a new saviour. You, Nifemi, are the only one capable of completely destroying the serpent "
"me?, how?, I thought the serpent was indestructible? "
"it was but not anymore. You and only you are capable of bringing an end to that evil creature "
"how? "Nifemi asked in confusion.
"it didn't state how but I'm sure the way would be shown to you eventually. For now, I'll teach you how to strengthen your powers to the max. There is however another thing it mentioned. 'to destroy the serpent, a sacrifice must be made'. We don't know how deadly this sacrifice is but the elders said if you're unwilling to do it, they don't mind "
"I'm willing, baba"
"why does it seem like you two forgot I'm still here with you and you, Nifemi, what do you mean by you're willing. Do you even realize how dangerous this is and a sacrifice?, what if it's your life? "
"I'll be fine"she smiled softly and that struck a cord in his nerves.
How was he only just realising how beautiful she was.
It was that gentle kind of beauty, very pleasing to the eyes and refreshing to the mind unlike Angel's beauty which was too sharp and seductive.
Why was his mind going off topic?
The most important was preventing his wife from fighting that battle.
"Nifemi... "
"Stanley if I don't do this, a lot of people will die and I won't be able fo live with that guilt. Let me go, Okay? "
"but you'll be alone? "
"no, I won't be. I'll have you, baba and the whole elders with me! "
"I'm scared, Nifemi, I'm afraid of losing you" he voiced out his worries.
He wouldn't say that he was madly in love with Nifemi but the attraction and attachment he was feeling then was palpable.
He feared losing her when he'd only just started cherishing her.
"I won't die, I promise! "
"I'll be in my room if you need me"baba rose from his seat, bored of staring at his stupid son's face
Nifemi moved close to Stanley and took his large hands in her small ones.
"please trust me, hmm? "
"I do"
"do you still hate me, Stanley? "
"I don't have that right and I'm sorry for all the pains I caused you. I promise to make it up to you once all these is over"
"I can't wait "she smiled and kissed him on the lip.
Stanley was taken aback because it was the first time she took the initiative.
No, he was the one who didn't give her the chance.
It was kind of ridiculous to know they had made love just once and it was even under the influence of aphrodisiac.
But that was about to change.
He kissed her back and consciously consummated their union, making sure they both enjoyed every single moment of it.
It was like never before.

ANNIE sat under a tree, leaning her back against it as the full moon lit up the eerie forest.
She gnashed her teeth hard, her bloodshot eyes blazing with hatred and blood lust, her whole temperament menacingly cold and biting.
She let out a loud groan, finding it hard to suppress the pain she was feeling.
It hurts.
It hurts as hell.
She removed her hand which was clutching the wound she had sustained from Nifemi's lightening bolt.
She was in unbearable pain and the wound refused to heal itself.
Was her powers slowly diminishing?
No, she couldn't allow that.
Maybe if she killed more people, she would be fine again.
Right, kill more people.
That only made her blood boil in expectation.
