SPOILER ALERT!
This is a summary chapter that aims to briefly explain the magic system of Apocrypha. As such, there will be quite a few spoilers for the story. Read at your own discretion.
----------------AKASHIC SYSTEM-----------------
Akashic System is the name given to the powers bestowed by the Akashic Records, the recollection of every living being and ocurrences in the world.
One's Akashic System awakens when that being leaves its mark on the Records, and is bestowed a True Name. Unlike their mortal name, a True Name is a direct reflection of one's soul and Truth — as such, most beings prefer using their True Name instead of their normal one.
When a living being is born or given a trace of Divinity, the Akashic System will measure that Divinity and give it a Rank. If the Divinity reaches a certain level, the System will bestow a Divine Title, classifying the being as a Heir — a potential deity.
Deities, beings with fully manifested Divinity, also are ranked by the Akashic. Usually, they are measured by their rank in the [Nine Heavens], but some outclass that system and the Akashic itself — they are beings born outside the range of the Akashic Records: the Titans.
Titans have enough power to tamper with the Akashic System, even rewriting it is possible. The Titan of Revolution, Asmodeus, is one of these beings; he messed with the System's coding to impersonate it and communicate with Seraph.
The more power one is able to draw from the Records, the strongest they are. In the mortal world, this power is measured by the Nine Akash Ranks, with three minor tiers between them (Low, Mid, High Tiers). Similarly, Divinity is measured by these nine ranks, though some beings with potential to outclass the system can be classified by a tenth, mysterious rank.
Keep in mind: one can only advance their Akash Rank by having a Facet.
The Akash Ranks are:
Mortal
Unseen
Conscious
Perceived
Engraved
World Remnant
Fate Remnant
Universe Remnant
True Consciousness
These names are also valid for Divinity, though their system was known for different names in old times.
An Apocryphal Divine Rank can have a [Heir] attached to it, meaning they are fit to attain true Divinity and become a deity. Each Apocryphal Divinity is under the constant gaze of the Titans.
--------------MAGIC AND FACETS----------------
Magic has changed many times over the course of millennia, as many deities took over and fell from power while the Titans were asleep. The Colors were one of them, a system pitifully weak in the true scheme of things.
However, once all deities died on the Vors Asteria War, the original system of magic, born from the time of Titans, took over the world. It makes direct use of the Akashic Records to show its power.
This form of magic can be used by almost anyone, but only after one leaves its mark upon the Records can it be used in its full power. This happens because only by leaving a mark, however tiny it is, can one create a Facet on the Records.
A Facet is like a second soul, a reflection of the purest part of one's being, their Truth. The Facet lives inside the Akashic System, and forces the mana that composes the Records into the body and soul of a mortal being, granting them the purest form of magic.
The Facet grows alongside the being, increasing the size and power of their mark upon the Records. Once the Facet surpasses a threshold, it can break through its limitations, increasing one's Akash Rank.
By breaking through, the original soul transforms, becoming closer to the Facet. Thus, it serves as a rule: the more powerful someone is, the crazier they are, as they are closer to the raw form of their soul.
However, the personality isn't the only thing that changes with a breakthrough; the appearance also changes drastically. As one gets closer to their soul, they become closer to perfection — in looks, too.
It is very rare to find a Fate Remnant or above that's even slightly ugly.
Facets usually can't communicate directly with the original soul, but there's an exception to everything. When one reaches the World Remnant stage, they will be able to speak with their Facet and gain access to the Akashic Records, becoming able to visit the Library of Fate — in fact, being able to visit the Library is one of the conditions to advance to the Fate Remnant Stage. When one reaches the Fate Remnant stage, that Facet will receive a True Name.
Or you can have a Titan mess with the system. Yeah, that's easier.
When Asmodeus tweaked Seraph's System, he made it easier for the boy to talk with his Facet, and the Titan himself gave it a True Name. Seraph's Facet now occasionally intrudes into his mind, acting like a brother of sorts. Seraph's body was also reshaped completely with the awakening of his Facet, making them resemble twins.
Seraph's Facet, [Le Fay], manifests by his eyes, allowing him to see and modify the flow of mana (like Asmodeus did to the System), allowing him to unmake a spell with ease.
------------THE COLLAPSE FORCE-------------
The Collapse Force is a group of beings whose mere presence cause the world to collapse into itself, making multiple dimensions overlap. They are Anti-Titan Especialized Forces, beings who have been in a war with the Titans since the dawn of time.
The Collapse are also responsible for the war that killed all gods on Shaedra and lead Asmodeus to betray his kin, putting the Titans into a deep slumber.
I shall not delve further into this, as it would be too big of a spoiler for the auxiliary chapter.
