Theodore stood tall, as Azalea sat on the floor, looking up at Theodore in anticipation, and just then, he started.
He dropped his head in silence for a few seconds, and this alone made Azalea worried.
"Theo?" She called out, and suddenly, his head snapped back up, and this time, Theodore didn't look human.
His eyes were deformed, as if they were changing colors.
Azalea opened both her eyes and mouth wide, in awe of what was manifesting in front of her.
She watched as his bones popped, separating and merging.
Fur engulfed his whole body, and his hands gradually became claws; his face slowly metamorphosed into an animal's, with a snout and sharp fangs. His eyes were now flaming golden eyes.
"Wow!" Azalea whispered, totally blown away by the sight before her.
Her brother was standing tall, half human and half wolf. She saw the fierce look in his eyes and how powerful he appeared.
"How'd you do that? I want to do it too." She screamed out, unable to bear her excitement, and it was enough to awaken Brynn, who hurriedly went to the study room, following the sound he heard with his superhuman hearing.
Brynn barged in on Theodore, still in werewolf form, standing in front of Azalea.
Although Azalea was Theodore's twin sister, she was born a human, and Theodore was born a werewolf. Brynn didn't want his princess to feel any hint of rejection or not belonging to the family, so he greatly prohibited the use of any werewolf abilities when she was present, and kept the werewolf lifestyle a secret from her.
Now seeing his son shift into his werewolf form in his sister's presence, and disobeying his orders, annoyed him greatly.
His eyes burned, but it wasn't out of the ordinary anger a father would feel when being disobeyed by his ignorant little son.
"Papa!" Azalea called out and ran to meet Brynn. "That's my big brother, isn't he cool?" She said, and Brynn lifted her off the ground and held on to her.
"I want to do this too; I want to look this cool." She told Brynn.
Brynn didn't look away from Theodore, who, still in his werewolf form, bowed his head a little in guilt.
He only wanted to impress her as a payment for his debt to his sister, but it doesn't seem like it was going to end well. His father had caught him, and that could only mean trouble for him.
His head bowed, not looking at Brynn, as there was silence in the room, and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of the rain hitting the mansion's windows.
"You have defied my order." Thunder struck as though it sounded trouble for Theodore, as Brynn spoke with an angry tone, so strong it sent cold shivers down Theodore's spine.
Azalea, on the other hand, oblivious of the weight of the offense Theodore had committed, had her eyes fixed on Theodore, with an excited beam on her face.
"You will now return to your human self and go to your room." Brynn said, "You are grounded for a month."
Azalea, on hearing what her father said, looked at Brynn with surprise, "But papa, he didn't do anything." She furrowed her brows in guilt.
She hadn't meant for her brother to get into trouble, not that she knew if it was a sin to be shown something cool.
"Your brother knows better than to defy my orders." Brynn said, and shifted his eyes from Theodore to Azalea, "Let's go, my princess, you're staying with me for the rest of the night."
"Papa?" She called, just as they both were leaving the study room.
"Yes, my princess,"
"What was that? Big brother has magic; I want magic too."
"You shouldn't speak of magic, princess," Brynn answered, "and rest those sweet eyes of yours, daddy doesn't like to see you not getting your beauty sleep."
Azalea yawned loudly. Theodore had woken her up from her sleep earlier, but right now, it seemed like sleep was knocking at her door.
The memory of that night gave Theodore an unexplainable feeling, which was the first time he ever got into trouble because of his sister.
He wondered what she would have felt or said if she saw him now, victorious and next in line after his father, the Alpha.
His lips twitched, but the smile disappeared quickly.
He shouldn't be smiling; he had indirectly been the cause of his sister's death. He slowly opened his eyes as he began to feel regret for everything that had happened, which led to where they were now.
Things might have turned out differently if he hadn't disobeyed his father; maybe his sister would still be alive.
He blamed himself for his ignorance; he had exposed his sister to a world that she shouldn't have known, which had led to her death.
If only he had not shifted in front of his sister, she wouldn't have so wanted to be like him, and therefore wouldn't have pushed Brynn into doing what he did to her.
As much as his father was guilty, he wasn't innocent himself.
Days later, in Northern California, at Lucius's house.
"Who invited Aurora to the house?" Lucius asked.
"It was my idea to invite her to the house. I was hoping her presence would help around the house." The first henchman said.
Suddenly, the first henchman ducked just as he saw the flying glass of alcohol Lucius had thrown, heading towards his head.
The thick glass shattered with a loud bang on impact with the wall.
"We were worried for your well-being." He said as he stood up.
"Please, you need to calm down, Lucius." The second man said.
"On whose orders did you have to tell that wench to come to the house?" Lucius asked, and he had been drinking profusely and was entirely drunk.
"Why are we still talking about this? It's been days since she came to the house, for crying out loud." The first man said.
Lucius's eyes snapped to him; they were red and filled with fury. The first man swallowed hard; that statement might just be the last he made.
"How…dare…. you?" Lucius asked in anger, as he slowly walked towards the first man, while the second looked fearful for his head.
Lucius wasn't just dangerous, but also unpredictable, and when he got angry, no one was safe - the victims, their families, witnesses, and friends, all of them.
And just like a flash of light, Lucius sprinted towards the first man, and before anyone knew it, the first man was flying in the air.
It was so fast that he had not seen it coming, unlike when he saw the thick alcohol glass.
