Chapter 33: Weakness

The Duke's red eyes narrowed slightly as he leaned in closer, "Watch your mouth," He said. "I can easily kill you right now."

Clint didn't blink.

Instead, he stared back, his brows furrowed and jaw tight, the fire in his amber eyes burning even brighter.

He didn't shrink away from the threat. If anything, he leaned forward slightly, as much as the Duke's hand would let him.

"Then kill me," Clint said without hesitation. "You think I'm scared of you? I've seen worse. I've been through worse. You want to kill someone just because they speak up? Go ahead. At least I won't have to keep seeing this rotten place pretending it's full of order."

For a moment, the whole room was quiet again, Just the sound of Clint's breathing. Then the Duke slowly tilted his head.

"You're braver than you look," he said finally. "Or maybe just foolish."
