In Tokyo, it was mid-afternoon, but the sky above the sprawling metropolis was a perpetual twilight. The purple miasma had enveloped the city sky, turning what should have been a bright day into something akin to a perpetual, ominous night. High above the distant, ravaged Nasu plains, silhouetted against the swirling purple clouds, the towering golden fox was now clearly visible. Its colossal form, a living legend brought to terrifying life, moved with astonishing speed, a blur of immense power amidst a constant barrage of explosions. Missile after missile, launched from unseen warships and aircraft, erupted around it, momentarily obscuring its form in fire and smoke. Yet, the beast continued its frantic, almost desperate dance, attempting to dodge the relentless bombardment.
Occasionally, with a flash of light, the nine-tailed fox would unleash a burst of flame to intercept incoming missiles, detonating them harmlessly mid-air. It was adapting, learning, and using its vast, inherent knowledge of magic to counter modern weaponry, finding the weaknesses in the humans' overwhelming firepower.
The residents of Tokyo watched on, their faces illuminated by the eerie purple glow from Nasu and the flickering light of their phone screens. Most watched with unadulterated horror, their minds struggling to comprehend the monstrous spectacle unfolding before their very eyes. Some were simply shocked, their brains unable to process the scale of the mythological creature before them. But a very few, scattered amongst the terrified masses, stared with a profound sense of amazement, a primal wonder at the sheer, terrifying majesty of the beast. Even as this apocalyptic scene unfolded, various live streams of the event, broadcasted worldwide from daring drones and illicit cameras, painted a horrifying picture for a global audience. The internet was now a window to the end of a perceived reality.
The giant nine-tailed fox, engaged in its desperate ballet of evasion and interception, suddenly paused. Its immense, golden head slowly turned, its gaze cutting through the distance, as if sensing something. Its focus sharpened, narrowing directly toward Tokyo. Then it rapidly began to approach the sprawling metropolis. Its previous, erratic dodging became a focused, straight line, covering ground with horrifying speed.
Amidst the chaos of the city, some residents noticed the shift. A chilling realization dawned on them, a primal fear that superseded all others. The monster was coming for them. Wisely, these Individual immediately packed their bags, grabbed loved ones, and began to flee the city, joining the torrent of evacuees. But for the vast majority the realization had come too late.

The sterile quiet of the U.S. command center, located discreetly within a secure facility near Yokota Air Base, was shattered by the urgent voice of a communications officer. "Sir, it's rapidly approaching Tokyo!"
General Brandt, a grizzled veteran with a face etched by years of command, slammed a fist onto the holographic map table. The glowing projection showed the immense golden fox, a blazing icon, moving with terrifying speed towards the heart of the Japanese capital. "Is it planning on rampaging and killing as many humans as possible before we exhausted to death?" he growled, his voice a low rumble. "How are our ammunition reserves looking?"
"Enough to maintain constant bombardment for at least another twelve hours, General," a younger, equally stressed Commander reported, glancing at a tactical display. "More than enough to deal with the monster, looking at its current state. It's regenerating, but it's not invincible."
Another General, his brow furrowed in thought, interjected. "It seems Tamamo no Mae is looking to use Tokyo as a shield. Given our rules of engagement and the catastrophic civilian casualties, we wouldn't directly bombard the city, giving her cover."
A Paranormal Department agent spoke up, his voice calm but grave. "General, Tamamo no Mae has already demonstrated advanced shapeshifting abilities. It's highly possible that once she enters the urban environment, she will blend into the city to evade our direct engagement. Targeting her then will become exponentially more complex."
General Brandt turned to the agent, his eyes sharp. "Can't you try to slow it down or stop it now? It would be a disadvantage for us either way if it approaches the city."
The agent met his gaze evenly. "We will try what we can, General. But a battle within Tokyo is highly likely. Our containment efforts are failing. Her power has spiked significantly."
Brandt exhaled slowly, a heavy weight settling on his shoulders. "Very well. Inform the Japanese government to evacuate as many civilians as possible to hardened shelters within the city. And immediately use heavier weaponry—anything and everything we can—to hit her before she arrives in Tokyo. We won't likely have another chance to use it then." The order was given with a grim finality, acknowledging the horrific choice they were forced to make.

Tamamo no Mae was not stopped. The colossal golden fox, a force of nature incarnate, rapidly approached Tokyo. It was occasionally slowed, or briefly halted mid-stride, but its immense form resumes its movement not long after. Missiles rained down around it in a constant, thunderous cascade, yet it continued its rhythmic dance.
Kaito watched on in front of the screen, the live feed showing the golden beast growing ever larger in the distance. The weight of the impending disaster, the sheer scale of the threat, settled heavily upon him. He knew he had to step in. The time for observation was over.
With a grim resolve, he reached for his faceless white mask.
Maria awaited him by the entrance wearing the same white mask. Alpha stood silently beside her, dressed in armored-like equipment with a black helmet completely obscuring her face. By her side, she carried a bladeless hilt, unmistakably part of a large two-handed sword.
Durandal, both the blade and the ethereal spirit, was already by Kaito's side, a comforting presence in the face of overwhelming odds. He stepped out. Ready for battle.
