Chapter 62: Giants
On the magnificent sea, the distance between the large and small sailing ships gradually closed.
In truth, the warship Louis and his group were on was not small. It was the standard configuration for the Marines in the Four Seas, capable of carrying several hundred soldiers to combat pirates. But compared to the giant vessel ahead, which lay on the sea like a fallen mountain range, the warship beneath Louis's feet was indeed a bit out of its league.
Louis's gaze fell on the several giant figures on the distant ship, a flash of understanding in his eyes. From their massive size and ship, he could basically determine that they were giants, though he didn't know if they were from Elbaf or elsewhere.
Soon, Yelena and Uta also saw the massive figures on the giant ship, both of them clicking their tongues in amazement.
"It's giants!" Uta exclaimed.
Yelena stood stunned on the deck, only coming back to her senses after a long moment. "Are these the giants you were talking about?"
Louis nodded in reply, "That's right."
Yelena fell silent. She had originally thought that the giants Louis and the others spoke of were at most 7 or 8 meters tall. But when she saw these giant figures, who were all over ten meters tall and weighed several times more than she had imagined, she realized her idea of giants had been a bit too conservative.
After a long while, all Yelena could manage to say was, "Being that big, how much do they have to eat in one meal..."
"..."
A moment later, the giants' ship also noticed the warship Louis and his group were on.
"Is that... a warship?" The female giant with a giant battle-axe on her back and long, pale-golden hair hesitantly lowered her large binoculars and rubbed her eyes. She suspected she had seen wrong, to actually see a pirate flag on a warship.
Beside her, a heroic voice rang out, "What's wrong, Gerd?"
"I think I saw a warship flying a pirate flag. I must have seen it wrong." The female giant named Gerd, not believing it, raised her binoculars again.
"A warship flying a pirate flag?!"
This statement instantly caused a stir on the large ship. Several giants heard it and ran over to Gerd, ready to see what was going on. However, the image that appeared before Gerd's eyes again made her completely believe it was true.
"It really is a warship flying a pirate flag!"
"..."
The giants looked at each other, seeing the same ghostly look in each other's eyes. They had never seen such a thing, not even in the New World. Are the pirates in the West Blue this wild? To so blatantly provoke the World Government's largest instrument of violence.
As Gerd slowly moved her binoculars down, she saw the three figures on the deck. In an instant, her expression underwent another strange change.
"What the hell? Why are they all kids?"
"And one of them has wings!"
"..."
The deck instantly fell silent.
"Kids?!" After a brief silence, the giants let out a collective gasp. They had all heard the word "wings," but none of them took it seriously, all assuming it was a decoration.
A moment later, the leading giant, who was bare-chested and wearing a helmet, frowned and spoke in a deep voice, "Let's go take a look! See if some pirates have kidnapped children to lure passing ships!"
The other giants heard their leader's words and did not object, silently maneuvering their ship toward the warship.
On the other side, Uta's eyes widened. "Louis, they're coming over!" she exclaimed. Then, she immediately transformed into her Siren form, preparing to use her song to deal with the giants if they showed any ill intent.
Yelena didn't make a big move, but she immediately gripped her World-Breaker war hammer, her gaze becoming sharp.
Louis, who had already heard the giants' conversation through his Observation Haki and superhuman senses, did not stop the two of them. On the contrary, he fully supported their cautious behavior.
As time passed, the distance between the two ships shrank to a very close range. Uta could even clearly see the circular grain patterns on the massive wooden planks of the other ship.
The approach of the giant ship made the currents chaotic, and the angle at which the galleon under them was rocking intensified.
Just then, a giant with a horned helmet poked his head out and shouted, "Hey, you three little brats! If you've been kidnapped, give a shout!"
The giant's voice was extremely loud, and he had deliberately raised his volume. To the three of them, it sounded like a clap of thunder on a clear day.
"Kidnapped..." The trio looked at each other, their expressions subtly changing.
Just then, a helpless female voice sounded from the giant ship. "Goldberg, who saves people like you!"
With a series of loud footsteps, a female giant with a battle-axe on her back appeared before the three of them. She had long, pale-golden hair, was wearing a linen cloak, and an exposed fur top, her long legs almost completely bare. She bent down and looked at the three people, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.
Just then, the other giants also came over, looking at the trio as if they were observing a rare species.
"It doesn't look like they've been kidnapped..."
"That little brat with the horns is really strong..."
"Wait, why did that little girl turn into a mermaid?"
"It should be a Devil Fruit ability, right?"
Above the swaying warship, the giants' whispers could be heard, causing the corner of Yelena's mouth to twitch slightly. Little brat? she thought. She never expected that at 17 years old, she could still be called a little brat.
To this, Yelena said in a deep voice, "Giants, why have you approached us?"
At her words, the giants on the ship looked at each other. Finally, a giant with a helmet, a bare chest, and long, loose black hair explained, "We originally thought you had been kidnapped by pirates, so we came over to take a look. It wasn't until we got closer that I realized you are very strong!" The giant, Hajrudin, had a solemn expression and a hearty tone, his whole being showing respect for the strong.
The giant race had always revered martial strength. Except for the most recent generation of children, most giants deeply respected the strong. And in Hajrudin's eyes, the human before him with black oni horns and long white hair exuded a powerful and dangerous aura.
"I'm very strong..." Yelena's expression didn't change, but she understood inwardly. The giants had only sensed that she was strong, but had no perception of Louis at all.
This sentence from the giant told Yelena one fact: this group of giants was very weak, to the point that they couldn't even sense Louis's power!
Just then, Louis turned his head and told Yelena and Uta that they could lower their guard. The two of them didn't doubt his words for a second and did as he said.
Then, Louis suddenly spoke up. "Are you the Giant Warrior Pirates?"
In fact, from the helmeted giant and the scantily clad female giant, Louis had already recognized their identities. The future New Giant Warrior Pirates.
The reason he asked was that Louis wanted to confirm whether they had already established their pirate crew.
In other words, Louis was a little thirsty for the bod... the military power of the giants before him.
