[⚠️ Suspicious Content] Sous watched Shadow take his weapons and place them within his belt. She stood up from her cot and helped Jacob up. It was weird having to sleep next to him at night. She never did that but he stayed in his corner mostly crying himself to sleep.
Shadow opened the door and two kids walked outside, looking back at the shack. They wouldn't be returning after this fight. Since Jacob was part human, it was planned for him to live amongst them in Red Woods. Monica even managed to find a couple of family members who were more than happy and eager to take him in. One night, Sous overheard her saying it was difficult to get a hold of the right council member so as to avoid the two wolves who were granted seats on the council. They always had to perform in secrecy. Sous wondered if they would ever get tired of that and if it was something they would always have to do.
As they walked into town for the event, the energy was unmistakable. For the last couple of days, everyone was talking and whispering about Sous fighting the Alpha of their pack. Rarely did such fights take place because the Alpha had always been the next Apex member of the leading Alpha. Normally it was the elites who had to fight in the arena for their positions.
When the three of them walked across the tracks and began to walk toward the arena in the center of town, they were met with sneers, wolves spitting at them, at their feet, even some of the children coming up to them only to physically harass them. Shadow kept his eyes on Sous who didn't budge nor get upset at the children. She walked with her head held high while Jacob on the other hand, kept his eyes down. With time, Shadow hoped he would regain his confidence.
They managed to get to the arena about forty minutes earlier than the schedule time of the event. When they walked in, organizers were getting things ready in the lobby such as food, snacks, and drinks. Shadow looked around for beer but he was quick to see a sign that read 'no alcohol while inside the arena'.
"Tsk, just take the fun out of it, why don't ya," he complained.
He kept his hands on the shoulders of Sous and Jacob while he lead them inside of the arena. He and Jacob sat on the first bleacher. Sous turned to him as she looked around at how big the arena was and how it was filling up quickly. She sat down next to Jacob, quiet, thinking what spells she was going to use. She didn't have many to choose from from what she'd been studying but the main two she was going to use were the parry spell, the fire spell, and the sword spell. If she used the water or the electricity spell, there was a chance others could get hurt. Although she didn't care too much about the members of this pack, she did care about Kara and Monica.
Derrick walked into the arena with his siblings and mother. He saw Jacob sitting next to Sous and some man and decided to walk up to him, a small blush growing across his face.
"Hi, Jacob."
Jacob looked up at Derrick, not really able to say anything, still depressed. Derrick sat down next to Jacob on the other side of him, some room being made for him since he was the son of the Alpha and the Omegress.
"I heard what happened," he said, keeping his voice low but Sous' ear twitched, easily hearing the conversation.
"Maybe-"
"Tsk." Sous knew exactly what Derrick was going to say and she wanted to prevent it so bad. It was the same reaction Kara had given her.
"...it was a mistake," Derrick finished. "I'm sure my siree didn't mean it. Those rumors. Siree is kind and passionate."
With each compliment Derrick made about his sire, the more anger Jacob began to express. Sous held his hand and he looked at her, his head snapping, wanting to cry once more. Sous understood Derrick; hell, she understood Kara. It was difficult to hear such things about one's family members, let alone their parents.
"Derrick," Shadow said. He touched the young boy on the shoulder, gently. "Jacob is still healing. Give him words of encouragement, not doubt." He paused knowing the next thing he was going to say would truly make Derrick understand why he was trying to get through. "That's what makes a good Omega. One who supports their partner during hard times."
Derrick's eyes got wide. He looked back at Jacob quickly realizing his words did the opposite of what he wanted for this Alpha he liked. He dismissed him, denied him and none of that Derrick meant to do.
He sighed and scooted closer to Derrick. He took his head and said with an extremely flushed face. "I'm here for you." Was all Derrick could say. Jacob looked down at Derrick holding his hand while Sous let go of his other hand.
Across the arena, Doureena walked with Zhiliary to where the Alpha's family was. Monica sat between Kara and Abel as Doureena approached with Zhiliary by her side.
"Kara, you know Zhiliary."
For a moment, Kara remained still until she realized what her sire wanted her to do so she got up, and courtesy to Zhiliary. She sat back down as Zhiliary bowed to her. Alpha allowed Zhiliary to sit next to Kara for the event. Monica seeing the event unfold before her, she got up and requested her Alpha follow her to a secluded place.
"What are you doing, Doureena?"
"Kara would make a great Omega for Zhiliary."
Monica was disgusted that Doureena would say such a thing at this point. "Zhiliary is practically an adult."
"And Kara will become one too."
Monica shook her head. "So once Kara is of age, you just plan to marry her off without even asking for her consent? What about what's best for her?"
"Marrying a strong Alpha is what's best for any Omega."
"And what if it proves today that that's Sous."
Doureena caught herself. "What did you say?"
Monica thought whether or not she was going to find her voice at this moment, and whether she wanted to or not, she did.
"I said, 'what if Sous turns out to be the stronger Alpha?'"
Doureena knew Monica was saying such things because she disagreed with the possible marriage of Kara and Zhiliary. There was no way Monica truly believed a child would beat Doureena today.
She stepped closer and took a hold of Monica's hands. Monica was the Omega she wanted from the day she first met her; this woman meant the world to her, her children meant the world to her and all of her choices and decisions were always based on what was best for them and the pack.
"Listen, I don't mean to make you upset, Monica. I think Zhiliary will make a good mate for Kara. But I'm willing to listen to you, okay, of course."
She pulled Monica into her arms and kissed her. It was true she wanted Kara to be mated with Zhiliary once of age but as of now, she didn't want to worry nor stress her Omega. Monica, the Alpha's Omega, was the world to her.
