Fat little hearts surrounded the tug boat with kittens and puppies prancing around Shadow as he leaned over the railing, waving happily to the three sisters and Sous who were on the shore.
"Bye, bye, toodles! Titty poop poop!" He blew kisses at them with a wide smile upon his face while the three sisters looked on in annoyance. Just out of the blue, he came to them requesting they take Sous for some time has he completed some mission.
His boat disappeared into the sky line, soon no longer in sight. Three sisters turned to look at Sous. In her arms was the basilisk egg in a jar filled with water. That was inside the bucket of bones of her father which Glinda thought was disgusting, and made a mental note to cremate them soon as they got home. The bucket also contained Sous' wand and many spells books, plus the alchemy kit. Gortrius noticed the alchemy kit had the name of Clarence written in fine print on the prim of the test tubes.
"Clarence gave you that?" She asked.
Sous nodded her head.
Gladian stepped forward with her hands on her hips. "How are you liking that witches book we gave you?"
"I haven't read too much of it."
"We're in that book, you know, the new edition. We were first mentioned when we were thirteen."
"You're triplets?"
"No, we're one year apart each."
They walked from the docks to the inner potion of the city. It was one of the few times Sous saw hundreds of witches and wizards walking the streets of Salons. In the sky, she saw many of them using brooms to get around.
Walking past the shops, Sous saw book stores, candy stores, spell and alchemy stores, clothing stores but her arms were getting tired.
"Can we rest? My arms are getting tired?"
"Here," Glinda snapped her fingers, allowing her wand to appear. She tapped the equipment Sous had in her arms, making it disappear, but in fact, she simply transported it to their lair back home.
"Oohhh Sisters!!"
A man with three bouquet of flowers twirled and skipped across the street. The sisters sighed as they saw him.
"Seriously, Gortrius, you still haven't undone that love spell," Gladian asked.
"I haven't had time! Plus Sous is now here for a week or two-"
"Which makes absolutely no sense since we specialize in black magic and the dark arts, and that's exactly what Shadow doesn't want Sous to do."
The three sisters let out a sigh just as the man with the flowers skipped to them. He bowed and shoved the flowers to the women. They put on a sappy fake smile and took the flowers, with Glinda transporting them to their lair.
"Curtis, how about you come on by in a couple days. We'd love to spend time with you," Gladian said, using her finger to twirl the ends of her hair. Curtis' face completely turned red and he began to fidget with his hands. Sous watched the interaction, curious to know what potion they planned to make to undo the love spell. She shrugged her shoulders though, love spells weren't really of her entrance. Maybe because she saw no use for them in herself.
After their run in with Curtis, they made it to the store front and home of the three sisters.
"Sisters Love and Devotion," Sous read the title a loud. "This is your business?"
"Yep." Glinda smiled while unlocking the door to their shop. Their business consisted of love spells and potions, a practice that was illegal in some provinces but apparently not the Salons.
Glinda closed the door once Sous and her sisters were inside. The shop sign said closed as Sous looked around a shop. She even saw a rack of potions for those wanting to know if they were under a love spell! Sous shook her head smiling. An entire business had been made out of one's failed desires and dreams.
Sous followed behind the three sisters down to their lair which was located in the basement of the shop while their apartment was on the floor above the shop.
The stairs creaked below their feet and as they got to the doorway of the lair's entrance, Sous saw a fat spider hanging in the door way. It was startled when the sisters approached then shook its head, moving to the side.
Gladian strung the thread of the web, communicating with the Spider that Sous was a new edition and was safe to let in.
Sous ran to her items on one of the tables, hugging her bucket.
"Shadow told us you want to speak to a medium about your dad. We have plenty of them here. Do you want us to make a power up of your dad's bones?"
"A power up?"
Glinda tapped her wand to clean up the lair. Books flying towards shelves where they sat neatly closed to one another, a duster dust around to rid the lair of debris, a broom worked itself on the ground cleaning the floor with the dust pan near by.
Gortrius sat down on a stool adjusting her upper garments so her bosom sat up and tight against her chest. She leaned forward while pulling an open book toward her.
"We can cremate your father's bones then make a potion with them that will allow you to absorb all the power he had upon his death," Gortrius exclaimed.
"His power will become your power." Glinda finished.
Sous was in awe at what she was just told. "This sounds like the dark arts."
"It is!" All three said. "When you consume someone to gain their power, yes, its dark magic," Gladian finished. "And with the power you already have, you'll be able to defeat Doureena like this-" she snapped her fingers.
The three sisters and Sous sat quietly in front of the fireplace. They looked at Sous, seeing the fire dance within the reflection of her eyes. Their own eyes went back to the fire place, the fire being the color green instead of the typical red and orange color of flames. They were aware of her meeting with Tany, a prodigy whom they had been training for years since Vania made it difficult for witches and wizards to practice magic; hence, why so many lived outside the city limits. They also knew of Monica, a dear friend of theirs whom they met in Hacate.
There was a gawk that sounded off, it was faint to the ears but Sous heard it. She got up with the three sisters curious to know why. It was Icuras.
Sous walked back up the stairs to the shop. There perched on a window sill. Sous opened the window, allowing the bird to fly in. Within its mouth was a note. Icuras had taken a coin that was on the ground and left. She closed the window and opened the letter.
The letter read:
I want to go to Hacate not Red Woods but I need a sponsor. Mother wants me to not go. She doesn't want Siree to know. I wonder if she's afraid. Siree wouldn't hurt us. How could she? She doesn't know mother is part witch. That means me, Derrick, and Abel are all one/fourth. I feel so lost, Sous.
Sous folded the letter and walked down the stairs back to the lair. The fat spider once more got out of the way of the doorframe.
It must have been Monica who spoke to the raven. And there was no way Kara could get a sponsor. She knew no spells, only recently found out of her blood, no one would accept her.
She sat back down in her seat near the fire place. Gladian got up once the green fire diminished. Gortrius got a shovel while Glinda got a bucket. The three of them worked together to put all the ashes into the bucket. They then carried it to one of the many tables.
Sous watched them gather all the ingredients they would use combined with the ashes. The sisters watched Sous, seeing her down casted face as if she were deep in thought. Most eleven years were out playing games and being with friends yet here was Sous reading books, making potions, learning spells, putting her way ahead of those of her age.
"Who's sponsoring you again, Sous, I forgot?" Gladian asked.
"Shadow's mom," Gortrius answered.
"Mara!?" Glinda squeaked out. Her and Gortrius poured the ashes into the cauldron. Gladian took a cup of water and dumped it in as well. Some protein and herbs were used such as taurine and guarana, elements known for increasing energy and stamina, followed by chemical elements consisting of 19 slabs of carbon, 28 slabs of hydrogen, and two slabs of oxygen, the compound elements will increase strength and power.
While watching, Sous took notes in one of her notebooks. It was Glinda who took the reigns and began to stir the ingredients. She then placed a top on the cauldron so the liquid can shimmer.
"How long do we have to let it sit?" Sous asked.
"Not long," Glinda answered. "What did Icuras give you?"
"You know him?"
Gortrius laughed, wiping down the area. "He's a boy from the same neighborhood as Tany. He was cursed. That's how Tany came to be such a good magae. She wanted to help him."
Sous listened as they spoke about Tany putting herself and efforts into books, but she wasn't to break the curse. Her ability soon caught the eyes of well know magaes soon leading to the three sisters.
"The witch was a recluse. We don't know anything about her."
"What did the boy do for him to be cursed?" Sous asked.
The three sisters exchanged looks with one another. "That's a good question but he refuses to answer us. Its why we're taking our sweet time helping him." They laughed. They were sweet but still rather dark given their line of work.
"And the basilisk eggs?"
"We use them for our love potions," Glinda said.
"And don't worry. We won't touch your pet." Gladian mentioned while she finished cleaning the fireplace. Putting her wand behind her ear just like Tany.
Sous smirked when she saw that. "Me and Shadow haven't seen any wolves-"
"The humans have been hunting them for their fur. So their numbers have slowed. You won't find too many around here. Some groups have set up conservations," Gladian exclaimed.
"Humans are like that. They do bad then do good. They're better at equilibrium compared to other species. They even set up conservations for the basilisk."
"Alright," Glinda clapped. "Its ready!"
