Gortrius and Glinda chased after their sister, Gladian, pushing through the crowd, pumping people, apologizing to students, tripping over their own feet, all doing their best to keep up with her.
Gladian only had one target. She was running to meet with Puimo. They were eighteen now, about to graduate, well Gladian was about to graduate, Gortrius never got the opportunity and Glinda had graduated last year.
It was the evening of the practice ceremony for when they accepted their diplomas and then their acceptance letters to Hacate University. But at this moment, she wanted to see what was going on with Puimo.
She turned the corner and saw Puimo sitting outside the counselor's office: Counselor Mara. She stopped in front of him, catching her breath, het shoulders going up and down. Puimo remained seated and looked at her, not understanding why she was there.
"Why are you leaving, Puimo?"
Her sisters finally caught up to her, stopping to give her some space when speaking to Puimo. During their days in school, they had made rhymes about the wolf-fairy boy which made him stand apart. There weren't too many people with that combination at the school. He was also quiet since he first arrived, having very little friends.
"I want to go back to Canas."
Gladian just didn't understand. He was going to give up everything just to go back to a region who caused his flight to Nadia to begin with. She shook her head, not wanting to hear it.
"There are too many stories of people having to feel where you're from. You can't go back!"
She got to her knees and grabbed his hands, crying, not wanting him to go.
"Gladian?"
The door to the counselor's office opened with Mara standing in the opening. She was stunned to see the scene before her: the yelling, the tears, the girl and boy, was this a lovers quarrel? Her eyes met the two older sisters.
"What are you too doing here?"
"We came to support Gladian," Glinda said.
"I see...Gortrius, do you plan to finish your education?"
"Nope."
"...I see..." Mara looked at Puimo and then to Gladian. "Puimo, please come into my office."
The three ladies conducted a spell that allowed them to hear the conversation that took place between Puimo and Mara. Puimo wanted to go back to Red Woods Spring, he wanted to go home even though he had been in Nadia since he was four. Mara mentioned he was walking to his death if he went back to Red Woods. That his parents left for a reason. The sisters listened as Puimo insisted he wanted to go back to Red Woods. The disappointment in Mara's voice was evident.
Puimo believed he could talk to the next Alpha in line to maybe have this Alpha be open and understanding to non-wolves to those that weren't all wolf.
Once the meeting was over, it was determined Puimo wasn't going to Hacate University but was going to go back to Red Woods. The three sisters heard the entire conversation and stepped back when the door opened. Puimo came out with his head held high as he saw the sisters before him.
Gladian stepped forward, her hands together in front of her chest. "I want to travel with you. Give you support when you speak to the Alpha."
Puimo didn't know why this girl was so adamant. He wasn't the brightest when it came to knowing when someone liked him.
"We heard the Apex pack is quite powerful. It'll be fun to test our magic against them," Glinda said.
"And where ever she goes, we're going," Gortrius added.
Puimo at the age of eighteen was a handsome young man. He had grown into his blue hue wings. His hair was full with pointed ears and fangs along with canines. His antennas were thick and dark blue with a green tint to them, similar to the same of horns that curled. He was lean and muscular with fuzzy fur around his jaw, sharp nails upon his hands.
"Okay...I'll be heading out after the graduation but I won't be coming back to Nadia." Puimo confirmed. Gladian nodded her head, the other two sisters exchanged looks. "Meet me in the court yard near the mermaid fountain tomorrow evening."
The three sisters watched Puimo and then turned to each other.
"What the hell, Gladian? You're just going to Red Woods? Those wolves are crazy." Glinda gritted through her clenched teeth.
"I don't want him to go alone. He's often alone," she exclaimed.
Gortrius leaned against the wall, "Some people just like being alone."
The three sisters walked to the mermaid statue a few hours after Gladian's graduation. Glinda and Gortrius had packed some items for them for their journey.
They saw a red light coming toward them in the darkness, soon revealing it was Puimo using his wand as a light source. He smiled at the girls and gave them the the coordinates of where to transport to.
Puimo took hold of Gladian's hand, making her blush as Glinda performed the teleportation spell. They landed outside the city hall and decided to take up sleep toward the train tracks where Puimo was familiar with.
"How do you remember any of this?" Gladian asked. "You were four when you left."
"I took a retrieval class to help unlock memories," he answered. "There's a shack in the forest that we can stay the night. I remember some of the bigger kids playing by there."
In the next morning, Gortrius groaned about her back hurting since they slept on nothing but a futon. They stepped out the shack, the screen door slamming behind them with Puimo leading the way back toward the train tracks, toward the city hall.
The wolves stared at them, some even growled. Over all, it was an aggressive experience.
They walked up the steps into the city hall. Puimo had them sit outside the office for an elite: Doureena Apex.
"And who is this?" Gladian asked.
"She's the next in line to be Alpha. I just want to talk to her."
The door opened and Doureena, nineteen, stepped out. She wore a dark blue feminine suit with dark brown shoes and a tie of a similar color. She opened the door wider for the four of them to step into her office. Being an elite, she gets her own office.
There wasn't enough chairs so Puimo was the one who sat down. Doureena walked around to her desk and sat down. She scooted forward and intertwined her fingers, clearing her throat.
"Welcome, I'm Doureena Apex, an elite of the Apex Pack. How may I assist?"
"I-I wanted to talk to you in hopes maybe there can be an understanding," Puimo began. "An understanding, a compromise for people like me, those born on the fringes can be apart of the pack-"
"We do not accept non wolves in our pack."
"You accept those who are part human."
"Humans are inferior to us," Doureena said.
"So...then you fear being taken over by non-wolves?" Glinda theorized.
Doureena turned to the woman. "Who gave you permission to speak?"
The sisters were taken a back by the elite's words. Doureena glared at the women then turned back to Puimo.
"And you came to me, why?"
"Because you're the next Alpha in line and I wanted to have hope that maybe you allow us to be apart of your society. What harm do we cause?" Puimo was practically pleading. "We're all wolves, whether we're half or one/fourth or one/third, a wolf is a wolf is a wolf."
Doureena kept her eyes on Puimo and she didn't stutter when she said the following words, "A wolf is a wolf who is full blooded with one only exception: human. Mutts will only dilute the pack."
"My mom was loyal to this pack! She gave everything to this pack! She never told any secrets! She believed in this pack!"
"Your mother was a betrayer. There were plenty of wolves for her to be with but she chose a fairy." Doureena held such a disgusted look on her face.
"They're threatened by other magae power." Glinda said.
Doureena turned to her once more and smirked. "You know what you need? You need an Alpha to put you in your place, girl." Doureena turned to look at Puimo. "If you were any Alpha, you'd have done it already."
"Puimo is more of an Alpha than you'll ever be!" Gladian yelled.
Doureena stood up and walked to Gladian, getting in her face, daring her to repeat what she said. Gladian did worst and spit into Doureena's face. With a swift motion, Doureena back handed Gladian, knocking her to the floor. Puimo quickly got up, his canines showing and his claws extracted. He shoved Doureena against the wall.
Smiling, her own self slowly transforming into a werewolf. "Ooooo," she mocked. "Your Alpha is showing."
Gladian was helped off the floor by her sisters. They ran to Puimo, grabbing his arm and shoving him out of her office. They ran, ran until they got to a safe space behind an alley. The ladies were about to transport but Puimo was staying. He was persistent, he wanted to fight to have the wolves accept him and those like him. It was nonsense to the sisters.
Gladian stepped to Puimo and kissed him on the lips, a peck. She stood back and joined her sisters as Glinda raised her wand.
