With that, she wiped away her tears and ran toward the curb to hail a cab, but she 'accidentally' stumbled and fell, slumping to the ground as she began to sob softly.
Lewis instantly panicked, rushing over in a few quick strides to scoop her up in his arms:
"What nonsense are you talking about? No one at the company can touch you. Darling, please don't cry..."
As he spoke, he lifted her straight into his arms. He shot me a conflicted look as he walked past.
"Miranda, you'll have to go to the airport by yourself. With Natalie in this state, I really can't leave her."
"Call me when you get there, alright? I can't rest easy knowing you're traveling alone."
Natalie nestled obediently in his arms, flashing me a triumphant smile.
I arched an eyebrow and scoffed,
"Natalie, I see you're quite happy to pick up the trash I've thrown away."
The two of them froze in an instant, the color draining from their faces.
I turned on my heel with a flourish and slipped into my waiting car.
