Chapter 129: Fight Back

Liang He let out a merciless laugh, sharp enough to grate against Sun Qianqian's ears. "What are you laughing at?"

"I'm laughing at your foolishness," he replied, narrowing his eyes. "It seems your mind has been so thoroughly muddled that it may never recover. To be so easily bedded—truly lamentable. Selling yourself for resources is despicable and contemptible. Though such things have become commonplace in this circle, is fame and fortune truly worth sacrificing one's dignity? That is a question you ought to ponder deeply."

Shi Xiaotian, overhearing this, couldn't help but smile faintly.

That smile was promptly noticed by Sun Qianqian, who, flushed with humiliation and rage, refrained from striking Liang He and instead slapped Shi Xiaotian across the face. "What are you laughing at? Who do you think you are?!"

Shi Xiaotian instinctively covered his stinging cheek, disbelief flashing in his eyes. The urge to retaliate surged within him but he forcibly restrained himself, knowing well that any such act could cost him his job.

Fortunately, Liang He intervened, delivering a sharp slap in return.

"Smack!" The crisp sound echoed as Liang He withdrew his hand. "If my people want to laugh, that's their prerogative. Mind your own business. Dare to lay a hand on my agent—have you lost your senses?"

Sun Qianqian fumed, raising her hand to strike again, but he grabbed her wrist firmly and then suddenly released it. Staggering back, she exclaimed, "Liang He!"

President Su interjected, "What are you two doing? Haven't you reconciled yet? Are you trying to start a new grudge?"

Liang He turned to meet President Su's gaze, his voice resolute. "There will never be reconciliation between us. I'm leaving."

With that, he seized Shi Xiaotian's wrist and escorted her out.

Once outside, he loosened his grip. "Why didn't you hit back?"

"I was afraid you'd fire me."

Liang He walked on, saying, "That won't happen."

Though his cheek still throbbed, Shi Xiaotian felt a warmth bloom in her chest at his words.

Together, they stepped into the elevator.

The atmosphere was slightly awkward, so she broke the silence, "Liang Ge, thank you for standing up for me just now."

"No need for thanks. It's because of me that it happened."

Shi Xiaotian smiled softly but said no more.

"Your brother and sister-in-law had a quarrel."

Long Fengxi paused mid-bite, looking up at Shen Congmo who was approaching slowly. "Why?"

"I don't know. Your brother didn't say."

"Why didn't you ask?"

"I did, but he wouldn't tell me," Shen Congmo explained. "When I went to his house, your sister-in-law wasn't there. He was eating alone. Clearly, your brother drove her away. You know his temper."

Long Fengxi tossed her sandwich onto the plate, stood up, and was about to leave when Shen Congmo grabbed her arm. "Where are you going?"

"To find out what's going on."

"He's already upset. Why trouble him?"

"If he's upset, then so am I. He drove my sister-in-law away, and yet he still thinks he's right?!" Long Fengxi shook off his grasp and stormed out.

When she entered, Long Yubei was just about to leave for the branch office. She intercepted him immediately.

"Brother."

"What is it?"

"Why did you argue with my sister-in-law?"

"We didn't argue," he said coolly. "At most, it was a disagreement."

"What was it about?"

"She was scheming against me."

Long Fengxi instinctively asked, "Did she try to embezzle your assets?"

"No."

He met his younger sister's gaze and confessed, "She wants a child. I don't. So she tampered with the contraception."

Long Fengxi's eyes widened in disbelief, and she slapped his head. "Brother, are you out of your mind?!"
