First rewards

Ragnar first performed a thorough analysis on the precious item in his grasp before attempting his innate skill for the first time.

His heart rate increased as he could not help but anticipate what kind of rewards he would obtain from offering it.

|| Sacrifice: 1-star (High-tier) Item (X1) ||

Following the last prompt, the item in Ragnar's grasp began to glow in a faint blue hue. After a few seconds, it disappeared.

|| As it's your first time, the quantity of your rewards will be doubled ||

|| Calculating rewards... Complete, revealing rewards.... ||

Ragnar's eyes remained fixated on the holographic windows that appeared all around him. His heart beat even faster as he leaned closer to observe the rewards.

REWARDS:

— X2 basic-grade skill scrolls

— X4 Basic-grade swords

— X10 Canned fish

— X20 Painkillers

|| Rewards have been allocated to your [🎒 Inventory] ||

"Wow!" Ragnar exclaimed.

His eyes brightened, and his mouth widened into an excited smile as he scanned his rewards.

"Skills, weapons, food, and even medicine! I thought I would get a single item reward. I never expected it to be this plentiful, and that they would all be so important!"

After testing the sacrifice skill and witnessing its effect firsthand, Ragnar became even more determined to continue sacrificing to the system to obtain more rewards!

As he thought of what to sacrifice next, an odd idea even appeared in his mind.

|| Negative: sacrificing rewards from the system back to the system won't unlock higher rewards. ||

"Oh..."

Even though Ragnar expected such replies, he was still dismayed.

His initial thought was that he would sacrifice all the items he had just acquired back to the system when the cooldown was over.

He wondered if he would unlock rewards of higher quality.

Unfortunately, Onyx shattered his hope by confirming it was impossible.

On the other hand, Ragnar was very satisfied with the rewards he had obtained, especially considering this was just his first time trying.

Ragnar proceeded to demand descriptions for the items he had just obtained.

|| Skill scrolls: Once the scroll is torn, a new skill would be obtained. The quality of the skill obtained is determined by the grade of the scroll. ||

Displayed on the inventory, the skill scroll had the same appearance as an ordinary scroll.

|| Basic-grade sword: Once equipped, increases overall physical attack power by 10%. ||

The sword, on the other hand, had a basic appearance. However, for Ragnar—who had only seen swords in movies and video games and had never held one in his life—it thrilled him to see and hold it.

|| Canned fish: A canned food transferred from Earth. While it contains no magical value, once consumed, hunger is instantly quenched by 80%. ||

|| Painkiller: Reduces body pain by 60%. ||

The canned fish was the same as it was on Earth, but there weren't any labels on it.

The painkillers were in the form of small white tablets.

Ragnar confirmed all their descriptions and appearance while strolling. After he was done, he closed his system and continued strolling.

"Big brother Ragnar!"

A little boy walking with his mother—who carried a clay pot filled with water on her head—spotted Ragnar and ran toward him, calling his name.

Ragnar played with the little boy before his mother arrived.

She greeted him and carefully lowered the clay pot from her head.

"Have you eaten, Ragnar? I would be preparing vegetable soup with the game my husband caught last night. If you want, I can send Robinson to bring some for you later," the woman offered kindly.

Nevertheless, Ragnar politely rejected her offer, claiming he had already eaten.

While speaking, he observed the water inside the clay pot, and his heartbeat dropped.

He dropped the little boy's hand and strolled closer to observe the water even closer — the water had an unclean brown color, and in the sunlight, he spotted tiny particles that resembled dead insects floating.

The woman and the little kid looked confused seeing him stare at the water for a long time.

"What is it, Ragnar?" she asked with concern.

"Are you going to use this water like this?" Ragnar asked.

The woman nodded. "Yes, is there any problem with it?"

Ragnar fell silent, 'No wonder these people are always unhealthy. This water is too unclean. It would be very unwise to use it for washing dishes, but these people even use it for cooking and drinking, how could they not fall sick?'

He turned to the woman and asked, "Have you always been using the water like this?"

"Yes, the water from the stream in the woods is the only supply of water around here, especially as it is the dry season. Not just us, both other hamlets also fetch water from it," she explained.

'That is very bad,' Ragnar thought, 'When next everyone is gathered, I need to find a way to warn them about the unhealthy state of the stream water, I know of a few steps to purify the water, and I would discuss those with them as well.'

Ragnar did not waste any more of the woman's time and asked, "Can I take Robinson with me? Since I've lost my memories, I have forgotten the direction of the stream."

"Sure, Robinson, would you like to go with Ragnar?"

"Yes!!! I'll go with big brother Ragnar!"

"Great, please hold him very tight, he loves playing too much and might injure himself."

"No problem, I'll bring him to you safely when we're done with our little adventure."

"Hehe, see you two later then."

She lifted and positioned the clay pot on her head and left.

Ragnar grabbed the hands of Robinson who had already began leaping with joy, appreciating the freedom from his mother.

Ragnar could not help but smile at the playful kid who looked no older than six. He has rough black hair and big round blue eyes that looked around playfully.

Both of them strolled together, and on their way they spotted other women returning from the stream, all carrying the same dirty water.

|| Quest has been triggered ||

Quest: Spread news about the bad water and suggest effective means.

Rewards: 100 XP, progression in territory development

Penalty: Overall health of the settlement would fall by 20%

Deadline: 3 Days

Ragnar was excited about the appearance of the quest since he had already decided to take care of the water problem.

The stroll down to the woods took about fifteen minutes, and after another fifteen minutes inside the forest, they arrived at the stream.
